On my ride home I saw what I thought was a turkey in the ditch. I stopped to take a closer look and saw what I didn't want to see!!!! Two huge toms with their legs and beard cut off and the rest of the bird just left there.

Now they may have killed these legally and on their own farm(not likely) but why throw them out like that? It just seems disrespectful to me. It was near my farm and just makes me think someone was doing something shady!!!

Please report it to your local officer by calling into your Regional office and giving a call back number to the radio dispatcher.

If it was Wilson Co., wonder if it has any relation to the deal from yesterday.

I will call it in today. It was Wilson County and not sure what happened yesterday.

I just called the local office and let them know. They said there is not much they can do which I understand but she didn't sound like it was urgent at all. She said she would let the officer know. I usually am the type to not report things like this because I feel like they won't care or do anything about it. ...and after the call I just made my mindset hasn't been changed! !!

Thanks for reporting it. Realize you were talking to a dispatcher or support person and not an officer. By itself, there may not be a lot that can be done, but if it links into something else, it could be. Irregardless, it will put that area on the officer's radar.

There are times that nothing can be immediately done about a violation due to the lack of evidence. But, I guarantee all good officers "file back" such information and give increased scrutiny to the area where it is reported.

It's all about documentation and case building man.

You know I hear of people back strappin deer every year.

Though it is not thought of as "right" at least I can understand the lazy aspect that causes it.

But come on, how long does it take to breast out a turkey, 4 minutes MAYBE ???

They have obviously never eaten wild turkey either.

Or the person could have been in a big hurry to get rid of the "evidence" :D

Curious as to whether what you found disappears after more people read this thread???? hmmmmmmm

:D

SCN, you are right about reporting it and keeping it on file.

I did not take pics....kinda hate to but I will today if they are still there. There is also a dead dog that I saw right beside it(several weeks old). Didn't think too much about it because we live out in the country and unfortunately we see lots of dogs that are dropped off or hit by a car or coyotes so it wasn't alarming.

Either killed legally or poached, that just aint right!!

Know how you feel about reporting it. Seems nothing gets accomplished. Place were I hunt has been notorious for road hunting as long as I can remember. Find deer in ditches with horns cut off, but never turkey. Just today I was on the hill at this location. Heard tom gobbling toward bottom, soon after I hear 2 muffled shots back to back, couple minutes after vehicle flying thru road. Text the guy who hunts it and he is at work. Obvious what happen!! I would love to catch them, but we have almost just gotten use to it around here.

I agree scn. I've had dealings with this and if you report it and directly talk to the officer over your area, they will in fact keep the area of the incident on their radar. From my past experiences TWRA is really good at following up on any game violations and will keep you informed on any leads..

I remember someone on this forum ran over a Tom strutting in the road intentionally. Maybe somebody did those and cut the trophies off. I could have hit 2 strutters in the road a couple of weeks ago.

It's part of the sport to show respect. Reading the OP reminded me when I was grouse hunting up in Wisconsin. I was hunting along a road looked over and there set a dead grouse with a stick run up through it to make it look like a live one. The breast had been taken out and could have been killed legally but something about it being used as a prop still bothers me.
