After striking out this Spring, I was looking forward to Fall.
I was sitting in my treestand this morning waiting for one of the big bucks on the farm to come out of the trail, when I see a flock of turkeys coming out.
They are at 40yds just getting ready to come into the field and within range. I picked out a big long-beard and was just waiting for them to close the distance when a turkey gobbled about 500yds away. All the Toms stopped, looked and then walked in that direction! So close, yet so far. Here is what my game cam showed right before they got to the field:

But, we're not done yet. The hens stuck around but went into the woods, too thick to get an arrow through. They stayed in the woods and then wandered off. I decided to follow and set up along their route. Got this hen at 8 yards. She carthwheeled off the edge of a ravine, ending up over 200yds down in the hole. Hardest I've ever worked to recover a bird.

Awesome.

I had some within range today but the woods were far too thick to get a clear shot. I snuck up on them after they originally walked up to me and busted me when I drew my bow. Through the undergrowth they were drilling me with their eyesight while I did my best to hold completely still. I got away without getting busted but was not able to take a shot.

Glad you got one, you should be eating good. i would love to hear a gobble in the fall.

Catman, I've had them bust me when I blinked. Their eyes are just that good.
I'm too noisey to sneak up on a turkey. I got lucky on this one as there was literally a 4" wide window to shoot through in the brush. I could clearly see them coming but there were so many small twigs sticking up, anyone of them would have caught the broadhead.
I've been smoking the turkey breast. Probably the best tasting meat ever.

How you keep it lit?? :D

yes turkeys can see like hawks and for a while I was getting stared down through the bushes but sat still enough they quietly moved on before I saw them out in the field.
