After striking out this Spring, I was looking forward to Fall.
I was sitting in my treestand this morning waiting for one of the big bucks on the farm to come out of the trail, when I see a flock of turkeys coming out.
They are at 40yds just getting ready to come into the field and within range. I picked out a big long-beard and was just waiting for them to close the distance when a turkey gobbled about 500yds away. All the Toms stopped, looked and then walked in that direction! So close, yet so far. Here is what my game cam showed right before they got to the field:
But, we're not done yet. The hens stuck around but went into the woods, too thick to get an arrow through. They stayed in the woods and then wandered off. I decided to follow and set up along their route. Got this hen at 8 yards. She carthwheeled off the edge of a ravine, ending up over 200yds down in the hole. Hardest I've ever worked to recover a bird.
