Went with a buddy yesterday on his place I've never been before to try to call him in his first bird. I got home gathering my stuff up last night to take my old man this morning and realized I had walked off and left my decoy erect on the field edge. Dang I'm so forgetful. It wasn't easy to just walk in and find either when I went back a little while ago to get it.

Oh, that's nothing. I once left my Super Black Eagle laying in a public gravel road in real-rural Weakley county. Laid it there behind the truck to tag a turkey and take off my vest (parked on the road edge that morning). Got everything else in the truck, hopped in, went and ate breakfast. Then went and shot pool with a buddy. Got home after lunch and reach in the back seat for my gun, and it wasnt there. Rushed back to the place we parked and the the road had been graded after we left. :livid: I looked all over for the mangled remains but didnt find anything. Figured someone picked it up after I left. But on a hail mary, I called the Hwy department and got the name of the grader operator. Tracked him down and he had it in the cab with him. Met up with him that evening and got it back. Full of dirt and gravel. He said the gravel pile went over it before he saw the barrel sticking out.

So dont worry about your decoy. :D

LOL @ SS, sounds like you and I might be kin! :tu:

In all seriousness, I could not have thanked that operator enough, and if at all possible, would have rewarded him in some shape, form or fashion.

Glad you got your SBE back, gravel and all. :)

I thanked him profusely. A buddy went with me and snapped a picture of him smiling and handing it back. It's in my hunting journal. At the time I was in college and broke, but I should look him up and do something nice for him now.

Earlier this year after a hunt I put the 4-wheeler in the truck and had my 870 in the gun case on the 4-wheeler. I pulled the case out of the bracket and laid it across the back rack then climbed down and secured the 4-wheeler in. Hopped in the truck and took off. Got on I-40 and had been on it a few miles when I looked up and saw the case with my gun still in it on the back rack and I was in the left lane. I couldn't get over fast enough to get to the shoulder.

Sounds like me. I've left calls, binoculars, and the other day I left my cell phone on my toolbox of my truck. After searching my office forever I borrowed a buddies phone and searched it on find my iPhone. It showed it in the middle of town. I said no way so I got another buddies phone and it showed the same thing so I went up there and searched and searched. Finally saw it standing up edgewise against sidewalk curb. U talking about a sigh of relief. And it's unharmed. Lol. Unbelievable So don't sweat it. It happens.

Killed a turkey once and leaned my gun up against a tree while I put my bird in the back of my vest. Walked off without it. Got all the way home and went to get it out and it wasn't there. Drove the road from my house to the parking spot several times real slow looking for it. Finally I decided, it must be up on that ridge. Made the long climb back up there and it was right by the feather pile still leaned against the tree

Wow that is crazy man.

Funny, when I read "real rural" Weakley County the first place I thought of was Austin Springs. :D
