To me turkey spurs are the greatest "trophy" in the outdoors...biggest I've ever killed were 1 5/8"... lets see yalls biggest spurs

I've never killed any like that and those are scary, but have killed a dozen or so that were 1.5" and probably 30 that were 1.25" to 1 7/16.
I'd post pics but the haters would come out in droves calling me a braggart.

I could care less about beards or weight, but I love spurs they tell the story. It's a fascinating part of a wild critter, and cool its only purpose is to deal punishment.

1-3/8 this year, first time I've ever broke that magic.1-1/4 mark but landed on it a few times. Id rather have the beard myself.

cant beat a set of hooks. my personal best is 1.25. biggest ive ever seen in person is 1.5 and ive seen 3 of those. but the spurs on that sucker are crazy. like setterman I would much rather have big spurs then a big beard.

I wonder how many older turkeys get called "3 year olds" because of there 1"- 1-1/8" spurs that just never grew that big or was worn/broken.

I read somewhere once about a guy that killed a banded gobbler with 1-1/8" spurs and called the band in and was told that they banded that bird 4 years before with 1-1/4" spurs and estimated him at 3 yrs old then.

And another thought, would a turkey with spurs like shown above show he had a fairly easy life as far as fighting and just basic everyday living?

i wonder the same thing...I'm not 100% sure they're even legit considering i found em on FB but still those things are awesome

I love big spurs and heavy weight birds. I really don't care much about beard length. I have killed 2 year olds with 11.75 in beard and .75 in spurs. So beard length doesn't say anything about age other than it's not a jake. My personal best is 24.5 lbs with 1 3/8" spurs.

Heck let's see some of them I like big hooks!

You'll often see those long, sharp spurs from sandy and loamy climates in the coastal plain of SC, GA, and FL simply because there's less terrain and abrasive soils to break them off or wear them down. TX and OK Rios and many Merriams though...different story.

Those spurs above are just plain sick. I've walked up on several quivering toms with honest 1.5" hooks and knew better than to try and pick them up. If he decided to kick one last time...stitches for sure.

Spurs for me...beards are secondary.

I would like for this to become the official "show off all your most impressive spurs" thread. And since I specifically asked for the pictures, let it be that no picture posted shall be construed as bragging -- no matter how many or how awesome. Spurs are the coolest part of any turkey. Period. I'll start:

A shade over 1 1/4"

My largest spurs have all come from the mountains here in East TN, and I have spent a ton of time killing flatland southern birds in sand, loam, clay, and river bottom mud.

I agree though that the most impressive, over 1 3/4" do seem to come from the sandy regions, but even these mountain birds can get some really good spurs over time.

my first longbeard was a 2 yr old with a 12.5 inch beard. But the 2 oldest birds I killed were around or just under 1.25" spurs and they both were ambushed, not called in. The older birds are tough to call when they are always with the hens
