TICKS!!! Guys do not down play the importance of taking measures of keeping these disease carrying parasites from biting you. They are just as dangerous as a mental patient off his meds hunting on Yahnali on opening day. Just trying to be funny but seriously, lymes disease and rocky mountain spotted fever are just a few of the problems they can cause. Not sure if any of you saw the Tennessean on Sunday but there are signs of new types of diseases and viruses showing up in Tennessee carried by tick. Take time to educated yourself on these nasty @#$%&* it could not only save your hunting season but save your life. If you do get bit, which is hard not to do if you spend a lot of time outdoors, watch out for symptoms which would be similar to the Flu (headache, aches and fever). Go to your doctor immediately, the quicker they can pinpoint the problem the faster and better you recovery will be. Guys this is just as important as wearing a safety harness during deer season be serious about the threat because it is very real.

Darn those ticks. Thanks for the reminder.

The way I have learned it, it takes at least 12 hours to transmit the disease. (But I have also heard 24, 48 hours). So if you pull a tick off within 12 hours of being bitten, you should be OK, and only certain types of tick carry disease. I have been bitten plenty of times and thankfully never infected. Last time I was bit was 3-4 weeks ago on my shoulder and while I did remove the tick within a day, the bite itched for a week or two as usual.

Chiggers are also terrible. Every summer I am in agony from walking through some type of thick growth in the woods. At least they don't carry disease.
