look for a 2009 or 2010 model. Go to archerytalk.com classifieds plenty of options. I want an Elite but thats JMO
+1
especially with 2012 bows approaching the market, people on AT will be dropping their 10/11 bows for dang good prices to get the lates and greatest!! I did see a 2010 high country speed pro x10 for $450 on at ... The people that shoot them speak very highly of them!! smooth and fast!

You can find the Diamond Outlaw for $499, ready to hunt, and it is sweet shooting bow. I don't care for the rest that comes with it but the bow is nice.

You can find a great used one over on AT for that much no problem.

Be sure to shoot any bows you are considering though and don't get caught up in the name on it

What would I buy ? I'd buy the bow that I shoot best with , starting my search by finding a rig that matches the specs I'm looking for , then narrowing my search from there by testing out some bows that match my criteria .
The best bow for you would be the bow you shoot best with .

And where would you buy it in the Memphis area? $500 out the door is about as much as I can spend.

The only place I would take any business in Memphis would be the Avery Outlet store. Nice guys in there that will take care of you and are not so dang opinionated like every other archery shop in the Memphis area. I've done a lot of business with them and love the indoor range in there. I think they are an Elite dealer as well as Hoyt. They sometimes have some used bows in there as well. Even if you buy a used bow they can help you set it up and tune it for you. I shoot a brand that they do not sell and they've not once asked me "Why you shooting that. You should be..." The kind of crap I've gotten at other archery "pro" shops.
