Is the Vol Nation cutting back on travelling?

i agree with several points. but i just think butch has peaked. maybe I'm wrong

I'm certainly not saying you are wrong. Butch may have taken them as far as he can take them. If so, I am appreciative of what he has done to turn things around from the dumpster fire he inherited. With a "normal" injury year, 2016 should have given a pretty good indication on whether Butch was going to be contending for championships in the SEC. He had the Vols as the SEC east champs at the start of the fourth quarter of the Vandy game, so the expectations lasted long into the season. I think we all know that even if they had held on that Bama would have boat raced them again, so there wouldn't have been an SEC championship. I really don't see anyone except Bama as the SEC champs until Saban leaves.

Unfortunately, in having to find a new starting QB and replace what he lost to the NFL, I see no way that 2017 is a "championship" type year to really judge his coaching ability. That is why, unless it really turns bad this year, 2018 will be his year to either get it done or not. All bets are off if 2018 isn't a really good year.

CBJ may have peaked I said last week 9-4 may be the best record we see from a CBJ team....

I also agree with SCN I also stated last week CBJ has earned the right to have at least 2 more years in Knoxville with this entirely new coaching staff, New QB & so on. for pulling us from the 5-7 crap team they were to now being upset over back to back 9-4 teams with bowl wins & wins over teams like UF & Georgia. I mean being upset over 9-4 and bowl wins alone should tell you how far CBJ has took this program in his time being in Knoxville.

Game attendance as a whole is on the decline, and has been for years, but I'm sure you knew that ;) :D !

Not really. I've seen that sports attendance overall has been down the last couple of years, but I was under the impression y'all were consistently selling out Neyland Stadium on a regular basis, and you definitely traveled well the last time the Vols came to T-town, so I was really surprised by the (lack of) ticket sales. Is the same thing happening on the home-game side? Are season ticket sales down for the year? I know that they are with Ole Miss. With their current fiasco I went from deep-in-the-waiting-list last year to easily holding 25 yard line seats, 50th row this year; but of course the situation in Oxford can't be compared with whatever dissatisfaction may be going on in Knoxville.

Whatever the reason, I'm sad to see the traveling falling off...I think visiting fans add a lot to the atmosphere of the game.

"1. Butch Jones, Tennessee: In the end, I had to go with Jones ahead of Kelly on this list. Unlike Kelly, Jones doesn't have an appearance in a national title game or a Fiesta Bowl on his resume at Tennessee. All Jones really has on his Vols resume at this point are a lot of expectations that his teams have failed to live up to.
Now, I don't really hold last season against Jones. Tennessee entered the year as the popular pick to win the SEC East, and for the first half of the season, the Vols were playing like it. Then the injuries came, and they kept coming. After starting the season 5-0, the Vols finished the regular season at 8-4, including a loss to Vanderbilt to finish the regular season.
Through four seasons Jones is only 14-18 in conference play, and that's just not good enough.
Further complicating matters for Jones is that he'll have a new boss this year too. Tennessee recently hired John Currie to be its athletic director, and while Currie has spent plenty of time in Knoxville, he has no connection to Jones. If the Vols don't take a significant step forward in 2017, the next step Jones takes will likely be out the door."

A lot of truth in this story and probably written by someone without a bias one way or the other.
