I am trying to learn how to get good groups with my recurve.I have figured out that if I point the tip of the arrow at the target to aim then draw trying not to move the bow that i can hit where im aiming and group well.I look at the target when i draw rather than the arrow.if i move the bow im off a foot though.i keep both eyes open and am getting good groups. Is this a good method or will it cause problems?Im kind of worried about how to aim like this on a moving deer

first, every person is an individual. especially when it comes to trad archery or shooting. each person has to find what works best for him/her.

second, it sounds like you have found a method that is working for you. dont be surprised if you find a second method that works and you end up with a combination of the two.

i shoot similar to what you are doing.my bow hand is lined up with the target before I draw. most of the time I release when I hit anchor when drawing like this. some days I am on, some I am off. the days I am on, this drives my buddies nuts. they gap shoot and it will take them 10-15 seconds to get their aim.

i think if you continue this method, you will get faster and it will become second nature then the walking deer will not be a problem. you will be concentrating on the spot you want to hit on the deer and the next thing you know you will see your arrow go thru that spot before you realize you had drawn.

funny you would say that because i just got done shooting and i tried a little different method.Instead of pointing the arrow tip i tried simply pointing the bow at the target and shooting.i hit good this way also.i think its because i kind of know where to hold the bow now.I have heard of gap shooting but don't know what that is.the fun in shooting the recurve to me is looking at the target pulling back and letting go and hitting where im looking.I don't want to hold at full draw.

i feel pretty good about my groups.im only shooting 15 yards mostly but can pull all 3 arrows with one hand when im doing good.i think thats not to bad for only shooting about a week.i have played with the bow before but never shot every day like i am now.i have made alot of improvement in one week.

there is a Masters of the Barebow DVD that has 8 or 9 shooters that explain their different styles/methods of shooting. Gap shooting is explained in that DVD. the dvd was given to me and i thought there was more hunting in it than there is. I've loaned it out to a co-worker wanting to get started in trad.

keep shooting.
