I know you can't do it on WMA's but can you use a call (hen call) to locate turkeys the day before season on Government TVA land ? I can't find it in the guide anywhere.

I am not sure but I don't believe I would be calling to turkeys before I could hunt them. I have never wanted to not only for my sake but for others that may be hunting that piece of public land also. They are about to hear every call that Walmart has to offer , no point in starting it early! Lol

^^^^ Agreed. I do not make any calls to turkeys before season, regardless if on private, WMA, NWR, TVA, etc. I am all ears, and the same most of regular turkey season.

As for a specififc rule or regulation, I've never seen it called out for TVA managed property. Call their Natural Resource Office and inquire.

It's actuallly a great tactic to strike a bird late up in the evening when they won't gobble to a locater and they don't always gobble on the limb. Most of the time when I leave them gobbling the evening before he's dead that next morning. Some states won't allow you to use a hen call prior to season . TN guide only states prohibited on WMAs .. I 'll call fish and game

Taking a youth tomorrow and I planned to try and strike one this evening on public ground that Ive never stepped foot on. If I strike one it gives us a good idea where one will be tomorrow morning. You have a better chance to strike one with a hen call than a locater call and they don't always gobble on fly up or to locater calls.

Seems like your tactic would only be used for one evening since youth season opens tomorrow anyway and any other evening it would be legal , I just have no clue on TVA land .I heard two this morning and will be after them as well with my son. Good luck to you in the morning!

As much as I hate to, I agree with OP. I started breaking this 'golden rule' about a decade ago. Especially when hunting new ground. All you are looking for is a single gobble. Once you find it, vacate the area quickly. Has paid off numerous times.

I couldn't get ahold of DNR so I didn't use a hen call yesterday. We wasn't able to locate any through the day with crow calls and we failed to roost one as well but we found some good sign and fresh tracks that led us to an awesome hunt this morning .. His first turkey and he was tickled to death! They are flocked up pretty good as usual this time of year but the were fired up. Managed to get him before the bad weather set in. Good luck to the

Thats awesome right there. A big Congrats !
Hope to see a follow up picture of that young man, with that turkey on the end of his fork.
I miss the experience we use to have of our children eating what they killed.
