It’s not too late

I've been running DPs for a few years. when I started the coons were bad, but i have put a hammering on them. I killed a group of 3 this year, and got a couple of possums too, but i have had years where I have killed 7-8 coons and a handful of possums.

If the NWTF would hand out 2-3 dog proof traps every time you renew your membership it would make a big dent with nest raiders.

I could easily kill 8 coons on this 60 acres as long as they keep hitting the traps. I shot one during deer season and have trapped 3 so far. Half way there

it appears you enjoy taking care of the coons and possums!! if you can, try some foot hold traps. you will up your game by a chance at catching foxes, yotes, bobcats and YES maybe a neighbors dog or cat. I trap for pleasure during the winter months knowing I"m helping the critters.

One of the places I hunt has a ton of raccoons as well as a ton of turkeys. I see both often. Will that stay in balance or will the Raccoons eventually overtake the Turkey population?

The lady who owns the property I rent on has a Pyrenees and I don't want it getting into a foot hold trap. That's why I bought the DPs.

Was walking around on our lease several weeks back and came across a turkey nest, 5 eggs were laying there and all had a quarter size hole in them. Looks like I'll have to take a trapping vacation this season.

They'll probably be fine, I've seen tons of raccoons in some places that are loaded with turkey.

Reason for trapping my backyard is I haven't seen as many birds in the past couple years. I know they spend a lot of time 2 farms over where they feed the cows. I used to see a hen with poults in the summer on my place when I first moved here. So I figured I'd try and make my place a little more habitable for turkeys, in hopes that they spend more time here in the spring after the winter flocks break up from the cow farm.

She's a good dog, a big dummy but she grew on me. Always waiting at my truck for scraps when she can smell a dead deer in the back.
Yea I hear ya, my labrador is always waiting when I get home and have a deer in the bed of the truck cause as soon as I drop the tailgate he's up in the bed of it
