Jake harvest down

Been 3 years since I've even seen a Jake where I hunt! Not many birds period thought where I am.

Myself and 2 hunting buddies are in on 5 leases in 4 different counties totaling 2,200 acres. We have yet to see a jake this year. Pretty strange!

Not strange.... that's downright scary. Time to look for some new leases in the near future. No jakes also means no jennies, which means rapidly declining population.

I posted this just for fun, I already knew what it meant. This is exactly why the writing is on the wall for next year.... sure there are isolated pockets that had a great hatch last year, but overall statewide, last years hatch was a disaster. Here's to hoping you guys are hunting the small pockets that had a great hatch last year and you are covered up in 2 y/o birds! (I know I am not in that crowd, next year is going to be TOUGH for me :) )

I think y'all will remember this guy. He posted this tonite on the TN turkey hunters Facebook page where they are having a lengthy discussion about declining populations. I may be reading this wrong but I think he is disagreeing with what Meg just said. Seems a little confusing to me.

I really respect Daryl and no doubt is he a smart guy. But like already mentioned, such a drastic drop in Jake numbers toppled with the lowest adult male harvest just doesn't add up to what Daryl says.

The problem with biologists is that their thinking is not often dynamic. They are taught one thing in school, and sometimes fail to realize that real world applications of those studies occasionally do not apply.

The thing I respect most about Daryl however, is level headedness and his willingness to have an honest conversation. That goes a LONG way in my book.
