"Would it be the off-season without Jones's name appearing on one of these lists? Probably not. Here we are, yet again, wondering if this fall might be Jones's swan song in Knoxville—and I'm betting it won't.
That said, Jones faces pressure again going into 2017 after Tennessee won nine games for the second straight season but turned in a 4–4 conference record. Losing to Alabama is excusable. But getting blown out at home—last year's game ended 49–10—isn't so much. And losses to Texas A&M, Vanderbilt and South Carolina can't sit well either.
Tennessee fans and administrators know Jones can recruit, but so far, he's failed to use those talented classes to rise to the top of the SEC. The Vols want to contend with the Alabamas of the world, not score just one touchdown against them, and so far, there's been little evidence from Jones that he's the guy to get them there.
That said, it feels cruel piling on a guy who has a .588 winning percentage in four years. Still, the heat is on for Jones, and his task—getting his team over that final hurdle from good to great and winning the SEC East—is tougher than that of a lot of the other coaches on this list."

There are a few who realize that the East title means nothing, and are not impressed with the team's direction. His offenses have been putrid, and he lived off of Muschamp's defensive recruits, many who are now gone. This year is a big one for him as well.
But, personally I like him, as long as he stays off of fishing boats !
Does you posting this mean you agree butch has done a heckuva job as well? Just curious.wayne":1oz5k4ga said:https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.seccountry.com/tennessee/tennessee-football-vols-butch-jones-18/amp

It means that I think he's done a good job at everything except a few games. He's made what looks like on paper to be very good coaching hires in Hoke and Warren.Mudbone":1tgppgz4 said:Does you posting this mean you agree butch has done a heckuva job as well? I don't think butch has totally sucked but I definitely wouldn't call his tenure so far in Knoxville as a heckuva job. ANy TN vol head coach who has a 50% wp against Vanderbilt has NOT done a heck of a job. Really, ANY coach anywhere who is 50% against vandy should be on the hot seat. :rotf: Especially when one of those losses came against Derek freakin mason (arguably the worst d1 coach in the country) when you had possibly one of the most talented rosters in ut football history. I know, injuries and all that, but the vols practice squad should be able to stomp Vanderbilt. I don't think vandy had a single player with better than a three star rating out of high school. Lol
How is Bielema not on that list?gator-n-buck":32g2e0op said:Got to ask, is this just "AD speak" considering that this SI article came out the day before?

The east title means nothing? That's hilarious.
It means a LOT!! It means you get a chance to play for the championship of the SEC!! I guarantee if the vols would have won the east you would be wearing the sec east championship t shirt and hat to the Golden Corral and the tractor pulls on Friday nights. oke:
I remember you and many other vols making a big deal out of winning the east before the start of last season when the vols were expected to win it. Lol
Why do you say winning the east means nothing??????
If my dores ever win it, it would be a yuuuge deal!! Haahaa
Mudbone":qqhkv38l said:U got me. I don't remember you specifically saying it was a big deal, just that it was brought up all offseason and right up to the vandy game how the vols were finally gonna win the east, and then lose to Bama.
Get back to winning championships and all that.
Someone needs to tell all these universities that it means nothing to win their divisions so they could get rid of all the divisional trophies and banners.
