Jones has done "a heck of a job"

Re: Jones has done

Yup, most resable Vol fans think CBJ has earned the right to have at least 2 more years in knoxville. If 8-4/9-4 is the best his got with no east title then I think the # of guys wanting him gone goes WAY to.

Of course your gonna have that few that want him gone No matter what he does. Heck a small group of gator fans want there guy gone after back to back titles.

I have 0 problems with CBJ being the coach in 2017 & unless the program falls completely apart like a 6-6 year with another loss to vandy or something crazy I will have 0 problem with CBJ being the coach in 2018.

One thing I think you can say for sure about CBJ is that his gonna leave UT in a lot better shape then he found it.

I'm glad he's at UT. Better than having a Hugh Freeze.

Re: Jones has done

I like Butch a lot. He had some hurdles last year, but team and coach hires seems to continue to improve. Right now we are ranked 7 in recruiting for next year, of course that will be moving up or down

Re: Jones has done

Got to ask, is this just "AD speak" considering that this SI article came out the day before?

https://www.si.com/college-football/201 ... t-pressure

"Would it be the off-season without Jones's name appearing on one of these lists? Probably not. Here we are, yet again, wondering if this fall might be Jones's swan song in Knoxville—and I'm betting it won't.

That said, Jones faces pressure again going into 2017 after Tennessee won nine games for the second straight season but turned in a 4–4 conference record. Losing to Alabama is excusable. But getting blown out at home—last year's game ended 49–10—isn't so much. And losses to Texas A&M, Vanderbilt and South Carolina can't sit well either.

Tennessee fans and administrators know Jones can recruit, but so far, he's failed to use those talented classes to rise to the top of the SEC. The Vols want to contend with the Alabamas of the world, not score just one touchdown against them, and so far, there's been little evidence from Jones that he's the guy to get them there.

That said, it feels cruel piling on a guy who has a .588 winning percentage in four years. Still, the heat is on for Jones, and his task—getting his team over that final hurdle from good to great and winning the SEC East—is tougher than that of a lot of the other coaches on this list."

Cur will be along shortly to give his input I'm sure. Of all the teams he could have picked to be a "fan" of when he came back as Nitro, he picked TN. His input will be very valuable...... :rotf: :rotf: :rotf:

There are a few who realize that the East title means nothing, and are not impressed with the team's direction. His offenses have been putrid, and he lived off of Muschamp's defensive recruits, many who are now gone. This year is a big one for him as well.

But, personally I like him, as long as he stays off of fishing boats :D !

The east title means nothing? That's hilarious.
It means a LOT!! It means you get a chance to play for the championship of the SEC!! I guarantee if the vols would have won the east you would be wearing the sec east championship t shirt and hat to the Golden Corral and the tractor pulls on Friday nights. :poke:
I remember you and many other vols making a big deal out of winning the east before the start of last season when the vols were expected to win it. Lol
Why do you say winning the east means nothing??????
If my dores ever win it, it would be a yuuuge deal!! Haahaa

Does you posting this mean you agree butch has done a heckuva job as well? Just curious.
I don't think butch has totally sucked but I definitely wouldn't call his tenure so far in Knoxville as a heckuva job. ANy TN vol head coach who has a 50% wp against Vanderbilt has NOT done a heck of a job. Really, ANY coach anywhere who is 50% against vandy should be on the hot seat. :rotf: Especially when one of those losses came against Derek freakin mason (arguably the worst d1 coach in the country) when you had possibly one of the most talented rosters in ut football history. I know, injuries and all that, but the vols practice squad should be able to stomp Vanderbilt. I don't think vandy had a single player with better than a three star rating out of high school. Lol

It means that I think he's done a good job at everything except a few games. He's made what looks like on paper to be very good coaching hires in Hoke and Warren.
Warren should make a big improvement with the db's.

How is Bielema not on that list?

Fair enough.
Everyone is entitled to their opinions. Though the majority of football "experts" (writers, announcers and what not) disagree. It is much easier to find negative articles on the performance of Lyle "butch" jones aside from his recruiting, than it is to find articles talking about how great he's done. Very good at everything but a few games huh? :rotf: He's right up there with saban!!!! Now HE'S done very good at everything he's done in the last four years aside from a few games!
It shouldn't have taken him four years to hire a strength and conditioning coach. He's done an excellent job recruiting according to the star ratings, but developing players, is definitely not one his strong points. Lots of his highest rated recruits haven't done much.

They are busy wearing the "Champions of Life" and " 5 Star Heart" T-shirts..... :rotf:

Find my posts from last year about winning the east being a big deal Mud. You are wrong. I'll eagerly await your findings. Just man up when you do OK ;) ?

Re: Jones has done

U got me. I don't remember you specifically saying it was a big deal, just that it was brought up all offseason and right up to the vandy game how the vols were finally gonna win the east, and then lose to Bama.
Get back to winning championships and all that.
Someone needs to tell all these universities that it means nothing to win their divisions so they could get rid of all the pointless divisional trophies and banners and stick to real meaningful championship trophies and rings, like the battle of Bristol.

I'll look back when I get a chance. It's possible to find posts saying both that it means nothing and that it's a championship. Your thoughts change daily during the season about vol football. When they win butch is great, after they lose, it's time to go.

Hey pal I'm just pokin fun man. Don't get all mad at me. Hahaa.
I do have this weird sorta dislike for butch. I don't know why cause I do think he a genuinely good dude, the guy just bothers me for some reason. Lol

We are starting to see the moonwalk better than Michael Jackson performed. All we heard was how CBJ was going to win the East the last two years. What happened? CJM in his first two years won the East. Now it's no big deal. Oh, CJM won with CWM defensive players... Funny, he also won with CWM offensive players. 'Champions of Life" and "5 Star Heart" T-shirts $9.99.... :tu:

Usually beating Georgia and Florida in the same year does win the east.
Fulmer didn't win it until his 6th year and he inherited a lot better situation than Jones.
