I think a head coach best ability is hiring great assistants, 1 man cannot coach 100+ players. I think Jones has learned and grown, and has parted with some friends, coaches. And right now looks to have much better crew. We will see but it is possible some of will be eating your words

Do y'all think the vols will be better this year than last year?
I don't. They lost too much to the NFL.
I can't hardly wait for the vandy game. Vanderbilt returns almost all offensive starters.

Most Vols fans are on record saying that Last year was suppose to be their year . Arguably Vols had a good roster last year filled with good talent. Arguably they should have had a much better record.

So if one wants to make a argument about him doing a "heck of a job" with that amount of talent. He is really going to have to show something with what he has to work with this year IMHO.

The '15 recruiting class was ranked 4th so they should have some talent to worth with. After all the jokes a few years ago about a volleyball coach, or swim coach, or whatever it was, being hired as OC, last year was historically one of the best ever at UT. And it's still Jones' offense. Dormandy will have a couple of games to get his feet wet before SEC play.
Defensively, it has to be better. Even losing Barnett, Sutton and Reeves-Maybin. MacKenzie and Tuttle should both be healthy, and the entire defensive front should be improved with Hoke's coaching and new s&c coach. Warren is an upgrade at db coach over Martinez.
That said, could be 8 wins or 10 wins.
The only thing certain is a loss to Alabama.
But then, no eastern team has beaten them since Jones has been at UT.

There are a few who realize that the East title means nothing, and are not impressed with the team's direction. His offenses have been putrid, and he lived off of Muschamp's defensive recruits, many who are now gone. This year is a big one for him as well.

But, personally I like him, as long as he stays off of fishing boats :D !

Listening to the big orange Sunday show with Doug Matthews this morning. He is emphasizing how important it is to win the east and get to Atlanta. I would've liked to be able to call in and explain to coach Matthews my new knowledge that winning the sec east division means absolutely nothing. I'm surprised someone like coach Matthews doesn't know that.
He is saying that lyles newest catch phrase for this season should be that they need to have their first and last games in Atlanta.
Smh. Lol
He needs to start reading the sports forum on Tndeer so he can understand what is important in football and winning the east is NOT anything. :rotf: :rotf:
I now know it means nothing to win the east but I would like to understand why. Just trying to learn. :tu:

Or maybe your saying it only means nothing if Florida or other teams win it, but if the vols do it is an accomplishment?

And I have to recall my earlier statement about not liking butch. I may be annoyed by him but I hope he stays around for a long time. I believe he is the only coach in the last 100 years or so that gives my favorite ball team such a good chance to beat the vols. Vandy is 2-2 against the vols with butch coaching and 3-2 in the last five years. Wow!!!

True. They beat the vols also. Hehe
They kept almost all the games they played close.
They return almost all offensive starters and vandy usually has a strong defense. I am excited for this season for the first time in a long time.
Probably overly optimistic tho. We are talking about vandy.

Let's be honest, Vol fans are nervous. Not only are they in uncharted waters. So is CBJ. He has never been at a school this long and most UT fans can't name the backup RB. The backup QB is a freshman and the defense is a big question make.

I think they have two fairly good qbs. Dormandy, and guatenemo. <sp . Defense could be better if they learn shoops system. I know what shoop is capable of once his defense is on his page.
Still think the DORES will beat them.

Neither have played a meaningful snap in the SEC. Jeff Driskel was also a #1 QB coming out of H.S. Also who's the backup TB?

Gauramtano # 1 duall threat but Dormady may start. Not sure on record there always seems to be suprises in college football. We also play LSU and bama
