Knoxville Deer Processor

So is Adam's good then? Forums seem very mixed on them.
I no longer live in Knoxville. A friend I hunt with uses his services and seems to be satisfied. However, he has stated repeatedly, most recently last year, that he believes that he doesn't get the meat from the deer he checked in. AND....I have heard this from several people.

I hear the same thing from people I trust.

Is that a problem? I guess I would be annoyed to get another's deer meat

Well, some may disagree...but I have hunted farm feed bucks (soybeans, corn, etc.) for nearly forty years in Perry, Hickman and Humphries County. And with that said...the meat is better tasting. JMO and taste.

Yes its fine and you 100% get YOUR deer back, matter of fact the deer are brought in to the cutting room and completed ONE at a time. Adams has been in business for over 35 yrs now and averaging 3k deer a year for close to 2 decades, if they did a terrible job this would not be the case.

Adams obviously does as good a job as any other volume processor in the Southeast, as they have been in business for about 35 years now, and to my knowledge are one of, if not THE, largest in several states. They routinely cut over 3k deer a year and this year will be closer to 4k. I can personally vouch for the fact that you DO get your own meat back in anything except, Summer sausage, Salami, or sticks, which is explained, as they bulk mix and smoke this meat in large quantities. As for the amount of meat you get back, they wont give you anything they wouldnt eat, meaning if both shoulders are blood shot and ruined, they throw them away, as I do myself. Deer also only average about a 45% return on dressed weight, and this is if the deer is dressed properly and doesnt still have the arsehole and or even the heart and lungs left in it. Yea you would be surprised as about 50% arent dressed even close to correctly when dropped off there. Adams also does more meat (weight) for HFTH than any other processor in the state, wins the award every year. I promise they have absolutely NO desire to keep any of your meat as they have as much as they can handle most all season long.
I have taken 10-12 deer over the years. Always on time, and always vacuum sealed and labeled. I never put the calculator on them for the 45% rule.

I can guarantee they are beautifully field dressed when he gets them from me.

BTW. A buddy shot and killed a buck out at the farm we hunted years ago. We searched for that lousy ballistic tip bullet but couldn't find it at autopsy! Ha! BUT 3-4 days later my buddy picked up his packaged deer AND HIS BULLET they found and had saved for him!

All I know… about Adam's.

He did an 11pt for me years ago and did a good job. I was down there during their "busy period" and it was unbelievable. It was like a Chinese fire drill. Workers everywhere processing deer. A guy let me peek in the coolers. Loaded. I truly intend no disrespect.
I wouldn't run in that cooler and yell anything about their Mother for a $1000!!

SO, Adam' is ok then?
I'm still alive from eating my processed deer from ADAM's . Never had a bad cut.
But looks like a few other places have been recommended as well. Depends on what is convenient to you as far as a drive. I usually hunted in the evening so by the time I shot, found, gutted, and loaded the deer it's getting late. Adam's was convenient to me and about 15 min down the road.

I picked a deer up from Adams yesterday. The steaks look high quality and vacuum sealed. The burger is in bags and closer to 1 pound 6-7 oz a piece. I wish they would be closer to a pound. For the price, my assessment of adams is it is well worth it. They have real affordable taxidermy there too. It is much cheaper than I am used to paying elsewhere ($450 vs. $700). The taxidermy is good work for the price but not to the detail I am used to. Would I use them for processing again? Absolutely. What about taxidermy work? If money was tight, you bet. Otherwise my taxidermy work is going to a more expensive place.

Late to this thread, but I would highly not recommend Broken Wing for various reasons ill not get into.

Moved back here from the SC Lowcountry in 2016, was spoiled by the processors in the area between Beaufort & Charleston - multi generation German descent craftsmen that made some of the best sausages, bologna & snack sticks I've ever had. The skinning rooms were sprayed down several times a day w/ iodine based disinfectant, no odors anywhere that would lead you to believe there was a game processing operation going on within a mile of the property. And, 90% of the deer brought in were intact - hardly anyone field dressed their deer (no extra charge).
First deer I shot I took to Broken Wing. Wasn't happy at all, probably the same reasons JJBraves alluded to. I took another to Dennis Rongo in Corryton - spotlessly clean & great job, but he's no longer in the processing business as far as I know. I've been to a couple others mentioned, no repeat visits. I now do all my own - ultimately better results than I've gotten around here & nobody to blame but myself.
