The wife has enjoyed shooting an old bow a friend has loaned us. Didn't really fit her but it was just for fun.

Now she has expressed interest in getting a "real bow, a killing bow" to practice up for next year.

I have NO idea what would be a good choice.

Her draw length is 25.5". Not sure what # would be good starting point.

Anybody have advice/suggestions?

Thanks!

My wife shoots the Parker Sidekick extreme and really likes it. We got it for 307 out the door. It adjusts from 18-28 inches and 20-40lbs, or 50-60lbs. Super quiet and pretty dang fast.

Becki shoots 25in and 40lbs.

Parker also has a program called Grow with Parker. Once she gets the muscle to pull the 40lb. limbs without a problem. Call Parker and send them your bow and 50 bucks and they will send you the bow back with 50-60lb. limbs on it.

Thats a pretty cool program.
One of my reservations is getting her too much or too little bow, then having to get another one after a year.

Thanks Shane!

My wife has a Diamond Razor Edge. All kinds of adjustment. I forget the length, but I know it goes up to 28". Weight adjusts from 30# to 60#. It too was around the $305 range. Great bow from what I can tell. She enjoys it.

Parker Sidekick is a great ladies / kids bow. Just sold my daughters...she is now shooting the PSE Chaos setup at 23 inches, 35lbs. Very fast bow

My wife shoots a Hoyt Razortec, same as the one I shoot. She has a 28" draw and shoots at 63lbs. She arrowed her first deer with it last year, her second year of hunting. I think any bow is fine for a woman as long as you get the right draw and poundage. Also I would stay away from some of the compact bows and get something in 35-38" range to help with accuracy.

Hunting with the wife has been great... allows more woods time and keeping things good on the homefront when you both want to spend time in the tree.

One of the ladies I shoot tourneys with has a Passion. It is lightweight and she can get the speed for 3d and the KE for hunting that she wants without pulling so many pounds. She only has a 24 inch draw. It is super lightweight, too. I would have one if I could afford it. Go online to Shootlikeagirl.com and see if they will be in your area anytime. She can shoot a lot of different bows set at her draw to give her an idea of what she might want. It is a fantastic way for a woman to test drive bows. They give you a printout of you preferences to take home with you. They do not represent any particular brand.

+1. Bought one for my son and I'd hunt with it. Nice bow and highly adjustable.

Parker make some good ones for ladies

agree on the Bear Homewrecker, buddy just got one for his lady and she really likes it. Diamond Edge would be a great choice as well.

I bought a BowTech BlackHawk off of JeepKuntry 3 years ago and my wife likes it very much. It fits her well.
I'm glad your wife is still enjoying the bow. Mine hasn't thought about hunting and it's not goin to change! She's rather sleep in and stay warm. Has your wife killed with the bow?

Not yet, came close a few times though. More experience will help a lot. Hoping this year she will get one.

My wife has really came into her own with bows. When I took her to look at them for the first time she didn't really care...a bow was a bow to her. She's came a long way now. She knows what she likes in draw cycle, weight, etc.

There are getting to be great options from all manufacturers now, for short draw bows...I.e. "ladies bows".

Bowtech made the Equalizer a few years ago and from what I've seen it is still in the top 3 for ladies bows. My wife has had one since they came out and nothing else she shot made her smile til the other day. Bowtech came out with the Heartbreaker this year that closely mirrors the Equalizer but word on the street is they are dropping it for 2012. Hoyt has a couple options, the Vixcen (Sp). Let's see...Elite and Strother both have ladies bows. PSE does too. Mathews has a couple as well. Martin makes a good ladies bow and I think Darton came out with one last year.

My wife has shot a bunch of them and always stuck with the Equalizer. She hated the Passion from Mathews. But when she drew the Mathews Jewel and shot it, something happened: she looks at me and says "how many pounds was this set at?". Then just kept shooting it. Turns out the Jewel was easier for her to pull at 41 lbs than her Equalizer is at 35. I knew it was super quiet too. Not sure on how fast but she liked it enough she ordered one that same day. All black riser and camo limbs...that's my woman ;) She said the only thing she didn't like was the stupid fake jewel they put on the riser. It's not came in yet but it sure made quite an impression on her.

Kevin Strother (designer of the Equalizer) is in the works of a ladies bow for his K&K Archery line. Knowing him, he will come up with a 40 pound draw weight bow silky smooth that shoots 300 fps at 25" draw LOL. I'm shooting one of his bows now...tops my scale at 76 lbs draw weight but feels like 60 to me and everyone else. His prototype 2012 is said to be smoother pulling...he said if you normally shoot 60-65 lbs that you would be able to order it in 80 lbs and not be able to tell the difference. That's quite a statement for a bow that is going to be "the fastest I've ever designed". So his ladies bow will be one to watch when he gets it done.

Got my wife the Mission Menace last year for Christmas. Very adjustable in draw weight and length. Not bad on price either, and Mission is a subsidiary of Mathews, so you get their warranty also.

wife shoots the mathews passion, you can pick them up used at a good price right now since the mathews jewel has came out.
