I hate to admit it, but over 20 years ago, a friend of mine asked me to go bowhunting with him. This was my very first bowhunt. I did not own a bow. I borrowed my brother's proline (pulled 45 lbs and was shooting some arrows that were sized 18/16 I believe, I still have the arrow and broadhead, I believe it had an old Bear broadhead on it) and shot it maybe 20 times in the backyard. My full extent of shooting a compound was those 20 times. I had shot a longbow maybe 100 times other than that.
We went to Shady Grove, TN and hunted his place. I hunted that morning out of a permanent stand. Did not see anything. Midday we scouted and I found a trail I liked.
I climbed in my homemade climbing stand. It got hot, I mean in the 80's. I took my shirt off, and only had on camo pants and boots, no headnet or anything else. About 4 p.m. I look and here come 2 deer. I draw back on the doe and just before I let go (was shooting with tab) I notice the second deer has horns. I ease down and wait for him. I shoot him broadside at 35 yards. He runs off.
I get down and go get my buddy Steve and he comes back to help me find the buck. He did not go 80 yards, a 4 pointer and I have been hooked on bowhunting ever since.
