I finished my Florida season this morning. I have been seeing three very nice Osceola gobblers chasing hen since the beginning of season. I have been seeing them come out of the woods about 200-220 yards in front of me chasing hens and heading north. I thought I knew where they were going so I got up a little earlier and walked a little further to get to place I thought they would be. I never hunted this particular spot and carried a pair of loppers to trim where I would be sitting. It was not the best of spots to sit, I was somewhat in the open. I did pile some brush I clipped in front of me and I was still in the shadows. I ended up calling all three gobblers right to me. The first photo is when he was some ways out from me but kept answering me and chasing hens at the same time. I called it to within ten yards when I killed him. He weight 22lbs, 9ozs., right spur 1 3/8 and the left spur 1.5, beard 10 5/8. Nice mature Osceola, but not my record Osceola. I am done in Florida and will be traveling to Tennessee in a couple weeks to try for a bird on the Cumberland Plateau.

This is the gobbler I shot.

This is another Osceola that I called in and was relatively close.

I think I short myself a little bit on the one spur, it really was 1.5 for both the right and left spurs. I measured them first with a metal tape measure and did not get an accurate measure so I which to a soft tape measure and got a better measurement. But I already wrote it down on the plate, so I left it.

I had to put my VooDoo Team hat on for the photo.

Sounds like you have not been to Hernando/Citrus Counties. Regardless of what most people think, Florida is not totally flat everywhere. If you draw a line east and west through Gainesville, everything south is Osceola country.

Lived in Okeechobee Co all my life those arent true Osceolas from up there, the rule is south of SR 70 check with a Florida biologist a lot of outfitters make the claim for the big bucks! Very nice bird though congratulations.

Well I guess it's not going to work. According to the map, you a well below the line. I'll find a way late. Gotta go to work now.

You are incorrect in your statement that Osceolas are only south of US HWY 70. Any serious turkey hunter would have known that. You can do a simple search on Google or contact the FWC. The Osceola range is south of a line drawn east and west through Gainesville, Fl is the zone for Osceola's

Here is an article written by one biologist for the Florida Wildlife Commission about the Florida Osceola and it's range, take a look at the map:
