Good morning everyone, I am new to the forum. My family and I are seriously considering relocating to Southern Tennessee from North Alabama and I am actively looking for properties in the Giles and Lincoln County area. I have toured several properties and one this weekend on Wiley Hollow Road was really impressive and I was curious if anyone on this forum hunts in this general area. Per the realtor it has a good population of both deer and turkey but it's quite difficult to trust a realtor. If anyone has any information about that area of the world it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Guntersville--Marshall County--as in the land of no deer. We have the scenery, the lake, mountains, etc but very few deer and turkeys.

Deer numbers are very good with the turkeys also making a decent rebound. You should have an opportunity at atleast a 120" buck if it's a decent property. A 135-140 is a big deer for our area. Seeing deer should not be a problem.

I own/hunt in eastern Giles & Marshall.
Drive through Lincoln allot.

Lot of deer moving in Lincoln last night. Skipped my favorite short cut last night to keep my headlights.

Agree in Giles/Lincoln 120s is a fair expectation with bigger ones around.

Turkeys still behind here. It is a shame, not that long ago folks coming to my property had to wait for the gobblers to allow them across my driveway.

I completely trust a realtor to tell customers what they think they want to hear. no more/no less

Wiley Hollow Rd in Northern Giles/Southern Maury? If so, pm me I can tell you a lot about that area.
Zach it's Wiley Hollow Rd in Fayetteville so I think we are talking about two different areas. It's a listing Whitetail Properties has. It's in the Belleville area. If this is the same area you are referring to I would love to hear all about it. Unfortunately I cannot locate the PM on this message board.

I do some hunting in Guntersville around the Honeycomb area. There are deer there and I use a boat to access the land there. I will say, it's nothing compared to the Lincoln County land I hunt. That farmland is just so easy to hunt and makes it enjoyable for the kids. I still hunt in Guntersville and Skyline because I like the challenge and the scenery.

I recently moved to the Fayetteville area. In the four months we've been here I have seen a lot, and I mean a lot of deer. Way more than our ranch back in Texas.
Unfortunately, all but two have been does and several spikes. The bucks I caught on camera were definite shooters. I suspect that once the rut hits the bucks will come out.
My daughter and son-in-law also have a farm in the area and they've been here over a year. They have seen plenty of shooter bucks.
When it comes to turkey, I'm amazed at how many we have. We've been told the population is down but to this new guy it sure seems like we have a lot. I'm surprised there isn't a fall hunt. In over 50 years of hunting I've never been on a property with more turkeys.
One more thing, we were unsure how we'd be treated/accepted moving here from Texas. I don't mean to sound corny but the people of Tennessee have been incredible to my wife and I. I've lived all over and I've never had such nice and welcoming neighbors. We can't go into town without meeting new people and every one always says something like welcome to Tennessee, we're glad you're here.

That's because you are from Texas... great minds think alike. If you were a liberal from New England....

The turkeys are spotty in Lincoln... used to he everywhere, but now just in pockets in good numbers.

I hunt few miles to the East of Belleville. I have been hunting the area since 1986 so I guess I have a good handle on deer and Turkey numbers.
Plenty of deer although the numbers may not be what they were 19 years ago.
Turkey numbers used to be unbelievable but for a reason that has yet to be officially determined they have dropped to the point that the fall season was closed and the spring season delayed a week last year or two. All that said there are still lots of Turkey.
The area I hunt has yet to be developed much with houses but it is coming. You should find more deer and turkey in the Belleville area than in most N Alabama places based on what I Ave heard Alabama hunters who have hunted both states say.

Would have never guessed n Alabama has no deer. Definitely a lot more huntable land in n Alabama from what I understand. Never hunted those parts in TN so can't compare.

I guess saying Alabama has no deer is a little bit of a stretch from me but it's not too far off.

Living in North Alabama when I was in high school/early colllege (late 90s) I was in a club in Marshall County where it was routine to see 10-20 deer per sit. Granted there were a lot of does but at least it was action.

Fast forward to now we hunt that same general area and seeing more than a deer or two per sit is considered a good hunt. And these are areas w minimal hunting pressure as far as over harvest of does. The general consensus around here is the coyote population has exploded and decreased fawn recruitment. It gets really old really quick not seeing deer.

Plenty of places in east Tn much worse than that trust me. So I know your problem.
