What was the first Deer riffle yall got your little ones? I wanna be ahead of the game, and possibly go ahead and have him one ready for when the time comes! I started hunting at 8 with my Uncle, but I have always only hunted with Bow up until the last few years.

Remington Model 7 youth in .260.
If I had it to do over it would have been the encore in .308. It kicked alot less.
That little .260 kicked like a mule. LOL
He got used to it though.
He is all growed up now and shoots a .300 win mag just like daddy. :D

My advice is to make sure you know which eye is their dominate eye prior to buying any guns, bows, etc. I was Right haded and Left eye dominant. Through lots of trials and tribulations early on I finally learned how to shoot everything left handed. Always go with the dominant eye and buy guns that are suited for such. A mix of left and right safety's are sketchy.

thank you Sir I will definitely keep that in mined!

I bought a Ruger 77/357 when my son was younger. I changed the stock to a coyote thumb hole laminate and upgraded the trigger. I also shimmed the bolt to have less play. Fun little gun. I took it out and killed couple does with it just to see how it performed. Killed 2 at about 100 yds no problem. No recoil to speak of and small, lightweight. I should use it more.

Short trapper lever action carbine in pistol caliber. They do not recoil much and are ambidextrous. If you get one in 44 mag, they can shoot 44 special and graduate to magnums later when they are more experienced. This is a gun they can use their entire lives.

Grandson has killed several over the years with my AR, used my 300wm last year on a 7pt, but 15 years old and almost 6' tall lol dont get them gunshy with something that kicks hard, a 243 can run bullet weight from 50 something up to 100g. Besides my muzzyloader my 243 has given me more bang flops than my 300wm or 30/30

The softest shooting caliber is what I'd be going for. Lever action in a pistol round or Ar platform with something. If you go Ar platform just load one at a time until they get the hang of a semi. The biggest thing is make it fun practice and build their confidence up. Ear plugs and muffs on to reduce sound helps a ton with flinching.

Single shot .243. Let them shoot low weight bullets practicing and put a 90-100 grain hunting bullet when hunting. They will never feel recoil on a deer. Also, when they reload after a shot, gun has to be cocked again to fire, unlike bolt or lever. During excitement, kids will rack another load in gun and its a cocked gun until safety put back on or hammer let down. One shot makes them take their time also. Worked for my 2 kids.

dang I never thought about that! that's good advise Sir thank you!

One thing to keep in mind is the blast and noise. I hunt in electronic hearing protection now and I wish I would have my whole life because I would be able to hear if I did. I would be sure the young ones had some ear pro at all times.

As for the rifle, 223, 243, 6.5 Grendel, 350 legend would be my picks.
