My girls have all killed deer with their mothers savage model 10 in .243. I bought my oldest a browning a bolt micro hunter in 243 for her 10th birthday.
Rem model 7 260, not the youth model, but they are no longer available, but he still hunts with it till this day.Remington Model 7 youth in .260.
If I had it to do over it would have been the encore in .308. It kicked alot less.
That little .260 kicked like a mule. LOL
He got used to it though.
He is all growed up now and shoots a .300 win mag just like daddy.
Close, you actually get a .284 cal bullet. the 308 has the 30 cal bullet. My youngin totes a cva youth single shot 243. Great simple safe ambidextrous little rifle. He's takin several deer with it. I would suggest thinking about a 7mm08 instead of 243 whichever rifle you choose. Similar recoil and you get a 30 cal bullet with 7mm08. Bigger hole = better blood trails if they don't make the best shot.
A 7mm/08 is a 308 case necked down to accept a 7mm bullet which is .284 diameter. My youngin totes a cva youth single shot 243. Great simple safe ambidextrous little rifle. That's exactly what I did it worked great. I eventually got him a Browning Micro Midas .308. I loaded some light 110 grain Barnes rounds that had very light recoil. The worst thing you can do is put them on too much gun too soon.Started my boy out with an AR in 6.8SPC. The 6 position stock allowed it to grow with him until he could handle a full sized bolt gun.
Is is what I e been thinking about for mine he's 6 so I still have a few yrs but I like it too.Ruger youth model 350 Legend
