Loaded muzzleloader

I was just as confident as most of you all for years, and I never had a problem except once before. That's when I had 2 does lined up, and planned on attempting to take both of them in 1 shot. The #11 cap didn't sound right when I squeezed the trigger, and the load didn't go off.
(That was over 20 years ago.)

Then, back in 2020 I had a mis-fire with the 209 primer and pyrodex pellets.

Biggest problem is loading it again because you forgot you left it loaded.
I did this once thinking I had unloaded at the end of season and then like a big dummy I didn't even check with my marks on the ram rod before confirming zero the next season.

Shot felt good but it had a little more kick than I remembered. Took entirely to long for my brain to comprehend what happened when there were two hole about an inch apart in the paper. Luckily it did not bulge the barrel.

I've left mine loaded and used it the next year before and it's never hurt it. But anymore I always pull the breach out and unload it at the end of season.
I have done this also, something I was told recently though, probably need to pour some penetrating oil down the barrel and make sure powder will not fire. Static electricity at the wrong time could cause a bad happening when pulling a breech plug. I didn't agree at first, but the guy that told me had a pretty good explanation how that could happen.

Never even gave that any thought. Makes sense tho
