Locating birds

I rarely ever use them but have two owl hooters in my vest.

IF, I know birds are in the area, I will start off with some soft yelps and clucks(subtle). Nothing, then I will get just a touch louder but I generally like to wait about 5 mins in between calling. After about 30 minutes I will crank it up with excited yelping and cutting. Sometimes I will use a mouth call in conjuction with a pot type call. They will go nuts. I let them have it, Either they they will talk or I will move on after that. 90% of the time if there is a bird in the area he WILL gobble.

If I got a response then I just set back and wait. See what his next move is. Sometimes you gotta back off and call easy, while other times he wants it. I have had them do both.
