I've been wanting one of these for years. Ten years ago, when Jurassic World came out, my daughter (7 at the time) said, "You need one of those, daddy!" Wasn't really interested in a Remlim for obvious reasons. But when Ruger bought them out, it was decided…I NEEDED one of those! So I've been waiting and watching for years to find one local and in stock. Three weeks ago tomorrow, I saw that Academy in Cookeville showed "in stock for store pickup." I'll bet I checked the status 60 times at work that Monday to make sure one was still in stock. Left work Monday afternoon, covered in sawdust, didn't even bother to stop by the house to drop the trailer and 4 wheeler. Went straight to Academy and bought one.
I debated and debated about what optic to use. Scout scope was a no go from the start, I just don't care for that set up. Thought about low power…but I really need the ability to zoom in and shoot through the underbrush at 200 yards, on the next ridge over where I hunt.
I thought very seriously on holding out for a VX5 2-10 with a fire dot reticle. But I really couldn't justify that price tag for a 200 yard gun. So I finally settled on a Leupold VX Freedom 3-9x40 last night.
Bought medium Warne rings to go with it. Unfortunately, they didn't give enough clearance. So, back to the store this morning to exchange for tall rings. THEN, the scope still wouldnt clear the rear ghost ring sight. So, I backed out the set screw and just removed the rear ghost ring and gained enough clearance to put the scope where I wanted it.
Got it pretty dang close at 50 yards with some 300gr ammo. Hoping it likes the 325 Leveroution stuff cause I can get it pretty cheap local.
