After 4 shots tonight, I released the fifth and the string on my Reezen 6.5 snapped. I have a couple of questions:

I swear as I looked down at the bow, I could hear something flying through the tree branches above me, but I can't find anything missing on the bow right off. Is anyone familiar enough with this bow to see that anything is missing? The two black rubber "stops" I found on the ground where I stood.

Here is where the string broke above the cam:

And now the damage. Any idea how the cam got screwed up like that? Did it happen during the failure, or was it more likely like that and ate through the string?:

If this turns out to be a warranty repair, can I take it to any Mathews shop? I purchased this at Hermitage Archery 18 months ago, so Joe is not an option.

Thanks

dm, I'm grateful you are okayit could have been much worse than a whipped arm! I just got my Reezen down and compared it to your pics and from what I could see there is nothing missing but I am looking at pics instead of bow to bow. From what I can see from your pics, it appears to be a string failure because of the fraying on the serving and the stringif it would have been cut it most likely wouldn't be frayed like that. In addition, the string is broken about 5-6 inches away from the string anchor on the cam and I do not see any thing from that angle that would indicate damage to the track that would cause the string to break. The damage to the cam that you did take a pic was a result of the string breaking and whipping around the cam. Mathews has great customer service and you can be assured that if it is their problem they will take care of it warranty wiseand sometimes they take care of the customer regardless. In this area, I would take it to the Archery Den in Franklin. They seem to have a good reputation and they are a Mathews dealer. Good Luck!

The only thing i can see missing is the damper on the string stop bracket at the top of the bow

Glad you're OK!

I had one blow on me, except the limb blew lengthwise and sent the cam flying across the yard. It's a very scary feeling to have one blow at full draw.

The Archery Den can take care of any Mathews warranty work, even if you bought the bow elsewhere, as long as the Joe registered the bow with Mathews. Had a limb break on a bow that I bought at Phillips Archery years ago and Jeremy fixed me right up.

Dropped off at the Archery Den. Good suggestion - nice place and nice people. The things that flew off - my string leeches! They are nowhere to be found.

Do you shoot over a railing or was there anything near that your cam could have hit? With that gash in your cam, it looks like it had to have hit something. I've seen cable and string failures cause the cam to bend or become warped, but never seen damage like that without the cam coming into contact with something.

I did that with an 80# high country max force about 12 years ago!! in atree stand and bored shooting at stuff and what do you know the bar on my summit stand was right in the way when i released andd derailed everything!! i looked up andd crap was hanging every where on that bow....lesson learned!!!

Grooves on the cam like that happen when someone torques the string off the cam. The string derailed and cut the groove in the cam..

Exactly what I was thinking. Maybe your cam was loose or leaning to one side to cause the string to come off?
