Maurer ...

Loser of Florida and TN next year has a team logo put up in their living room and picture posted here. Then me and rem270 also have a bet that TN will beat bama in the next 2 years and same stipulations.

Looks like a rep to me.

On the radio yesterday, Hyams was practically begging people not to boo JG if he trots onto the field as the starter Saturday. I wouldn't boo, but there will sure be some groans if that happens.

I read today where Pruitt said Maurer was "doubtful" to play Saturday...

If JG runs out on the field as starting quarterback Saturday, I imagine the stadium will get loud.... with fans Booing him.

I'm certainly not hopeful of a win with JG at QB for the Vols on Saturday. But, with that being said, anybody that boos a HS or college player (with the exception of an obvious dirty play during a game) is a POS in my book. The kids are doing their best out there even when they suck it up.

I totally agree about booing any player. When you compare their stats there's a big difference. I would still pump the brakes. New qbs are like new girlfriends/boyfriends. Everybody loves them in the beginning. It was the same way when JG took over at QB.

I saw some kind of social media pic floating around that Maurer posted that was a pic of Vanderbilt Medical Center and was captioned "God is with me". Seems that concussions could be handled in Knoxville, which leads me to believe he is seeing some kind of spinal expert for further diag or maybe second opinion.

Whatever it might be, id say hes not playing Saturday. If JG plays, I hope they feed Jordan, Chandler and Gray some gunpowder for breakfast and just hand them the ball. Or let JT play and just let him sling it.

Apparently Maurer IS the starting quarterback .

Who knew ???

Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt appeared on the weekly SEC Coaches Teleconference on Wednesday to update the media as the Vols (2-5, 1-3 SEC) prepare to host the South Carolina Gamecocks (3-4, 2-3 SEC) on Saturday.

The game is virtually a 'must-win' as far as Tennessee's postseason aspirations go, but according to Pruitt, they will most likely be without starting quarterback Brian Maurer.

Maurer suffered a concussion in the second quarter in the Vols' 35-13 loss to No. 1 ALABAMA last Saturday.

"We've shuffled a few guys in at quarterback," Pruitt said on the teleconference. "Jarrett (Guarantano) and JT (Shrout) have taken some reps there. Brian (Maurer) has not taken any reps this week so he's probably doubtful."

Hopefully its nothing to do with his spin. Hate seeing any kid hurt. Concussions are bad enough.

That was just drills. As far as getting reps in preparation for the game, it was Shrout and #2. Shrout getting a majority of the time with the 1st team.

Thanks for the link.

One of the commenters had this to say, and honestly, this seems the most logical to me. Doesn't mean he will play, but doesn't rule it out either if this person's on the money:

I obviously don't have any evidence to back this, but having worked as a nurse for many years I personally feel as though sending him to a specialist might be a precautionary step in determining his safety to play this weekend. I don't think he had a legitimate concussion, maybe either time, and there has just been extra care to protect the kid. If he had a concussion the first time I can't see how he would have been released as quickly as he was. It just doesn't make sense. If he has a neck injury it's a different story but a concussion doesn't make sense. For any risk of a head injury they would placed him in protocol and to be quite honest if he had another concussion it wouldn't be open to assessment on whether he might play or not. Maybe totally ignorant but just my thoughts.

Possible.. Honestly looking at the stats ,,if you are going to rely on the stats alone its a coin flip between Maurer and JG. JG is just terrible though IMHO. If I were Pruitt at this point in the season I would sandbag JG and go with my youth in MAurer and get him some snaps for the future of the team. I think at most vols win 2 more games regardless who is at the helm . Its not going to matter.

I'd be surprised if Maurer plays. He has provided a boost and the offense is more cohesive with him taking the snaps. Stats alone won't show that though and lord knows he is still prone to bad mistakes. Don't know who starts but I expect we'll take the air out of the ball. If its Shrout it may set up to take some deep shots on play action if we can establish our running game. If its JG I don't think he'll have any leash at all and the receivers will have to go out of their way to make plays on short throws only when its absolutely necessary.

As far as JG goes, man I am just perplexed. Last year I was pleased with how he played considering how bad the offensive line was. He got the sh!t beat out of him and he took care of the ball, and never really lost us a game. Again, he wasn't a world beater and I didn't expect him to be a world beater this year, but I did expect him to take a step forward and he's unfortunately gone the other direction. The funny thing too is that normally when you talk about a QB (at any level) playing bad it usually means they're making bad throws and turning the ball over. Now he's turning the ball over but it's as much about the reads and throws he isn't making. Obvious throws to open guys. I do agree with the point earlier about not booing college kids. That's not my jam. I think he wants to be better and I would be tickled if he could manage it.

As for the rest of the year. We could win out, and we could go winless, probably somewhere in-between. If you asked me a month ago I would be apt to say we go winless. But, if we play like we have the last two weeks I think we'll at least have a shot in every game. It'll depend on everybody else too though. Couldn't believe Mizzou got beat by Vandy. I also remember what happened last time UK started a WR at QB in Lexington. I will say this though I have more hope and faith now than I have yet this season. Coaches are calling good games and they've got the kids playing hard.

Completely agree on the first and third paragraph, well said

In before an opposing "fan" tries to be cute ;) !

What gives me hope is the improvement that the young Oline has shown and our ability to run the ball. The drive against Bama where JG imploded at the goal line was something that this team had not been able to do in some time. We pushed the Bama 5-stars back on several plays. Our backs were actually able to make cuts and hit holes without having to dodge a defender as they were getting the handoff. And then the makeshift defense was stout against the run for much of the game.

We need to finish the season strong and not tank like we did last year after beating Auburn and Ky.
