McElwain

Wolken lists McElwain's name fifth behind Western Michigan's P.J. Fleck, Boise State's Bryan Harsin, Penn State's James Franklin (who is about to be extended by the Nittany Lions after rebuilding the program and unlikely to leave) and North Carolina's Larry Fedora. Nevertheless, Wolken notes the crux of McElwain's interest would likely be the fact that the Gators have a new athletics director and Florida fans are under-appreciating him for bringing the program back-to-back SEC East division crowns.

While it is accurate that Florida fans under-appreciate McElwain for winning consecutive SEC East crowns, the reasoning is due to his to-this-point inability to turn around the Gators' much-maligned offense despite two years at the helm. Florida is actually ranked lower in nearly every offensive category in 2016 than it was in 2014, Will Muschamp's final season. It's also true that McElwain was not hired by current UF athletic director Scott Striklin, though there's nothing out there at this time to believe that they do not have a healthy relationship.

What should be noted here is that McElwain, like most coaches in the nation, has an agent who is undoubtedly angling to get his client a raise after what they deem to be another successful season in Gainesville, Florida. Just look at how Houston's Tom Herman and Florida State's Jimbo Fisher were named as coaching candidates at LSU only for both to turn down the Tigers (Fisher to return to the Seminoles likely for a more substantial contract).

However, any reports at this time of the season should be taken seriously, and if McElwain were to leave, he would become the first Gators coach to jettison the team for another college head coaching job since Charlie Bachman went to Michigan State after the 1932 season.

If McElwain leaves, Kiffen will be a top contender for that job.

Then there's Charlie Weak... Hopefully he would get it over Kiffen

Rumor is J McElwain is headed to Oregon. You heard anything Trey? :tu:

I have read that, wouldn't surprise me but I doubt it.

IF he does leave I would want Petrino at UF.

And congrats on the win the other night.

Glad #4 is leaving. :tu:

Six offensive points in two years against an instate rival, and wining back to back SEC East tittles non-withstanding, will sour a relationship very quickly.

I am a diehard UF fan, but I will say this. Winning the East is nice. But winning it with the East being down bad and winning it with the way our Offense is knowing its going to be a beat down is no fun. Lost its luster. He has to make changes with the Ocord, Oline coach and SP teams coach after season.

You can't slam Butch Jones for not winning a weak East and turn around and praise Mcelwain for the same division.

I can when TN has a lot. Ore talent and experience than UF did. And I also can for a coach that's. Wen there for 4 years and has won Zero East titles and a coach that's been there 2 years and has won 2 East titles.

Just a few months ago TN fans had 10-2, 11-1 and 12-0 seasons predictions. What was gods?? This was the year TN was suppose to at least be in ATL

What good does being SEC runner-up do you if you get embarrassed in a bowl game?

Well for starters when Butch came here our program was in a lot worse shape than when Mcelwain came to florida. Butch did manage to beat gators this year, but then the dumpster fire, hope he gets it fixed

Take a breath for goodness sakes. The SEC east stinks. Florida didn't win it, they lost it less than the other stinky teams. You can spin it however you want to.
