I tried something new this year and I am pleasantly surprised with the outcome.

The day before the rain from Helene came through NE middle TN I decided to broadcast some seed in a small area where our cattle bed through the summer. It's a patch of locust trees that offer good shade on top of the ridge. It was essentially bare ground of mud and cow manure with some leaf cover.

I did nothing but throw out some seed with some great rain timing. I also grabbed a bag of food plot seed from TSC a few weeks later and cast on top to fill in gaps.

Right now it's looking really good and I have been getting lots of pics of bucks and does feeding. Several mature bucks in daylight as well which is cool.

I wish I could get away with micro plots, they keep them wiped out. I have 1 maybe 2/10 acre in the woods, south facing slope between bedding and row crop ground. It's a moist slope so moisture is never an issue. I plant that ground 4 and 5X's a year and it's great for does with bows but they keep it mowed.
