Nothing worse. I missed this morning for the first time in I think 6 years. Absolutely sucks, especially with how tough this year has been. I did everything so perfectly on a really Wiley bird and just blew it at the end. These haunt me for years

Anyone else feel this way?

Catman since you're a pro at missing any advice? Just kidding bud.

Yea you're an amateur you got nothing to complain about [emoji23]

Keep after em, it burns for a while, I'm still bothered by birds I missed 3, 4, 5 years ago

Put me in the club.
It's been a terrible season.
Haven't had a response to a call since the 2nd weekend.
I finally got a player yesterday evening. Ended up calling in 8-10 Toms and missed each one at 10 steps.
It happened quick and I was in a bad bind. Panicked, rushed it and still mad about it.
First shot I've fired in 15 hunts.

It happens to even the best at least every now and then. I don't understand the folks that miss a lot with a shotgun, but like I said, everybody misses every now and then. I'm sure I will soon enough.

It happens! There is nothing worse than getting up to go get one flopping and it's flying away! Stay after them til the end , you will redeem yourself!

Missed 2 years ago. Got on 2 at 9:30 one morning. I heard them move back to the front part of my property so slipped to where I thought they were. When I hit the slate they were within 100 yards. They were on me in less than 5 mins and I missed at 10 steps or less. I felt myself pull hard left when I shot. All I could do was sit there in awe for several minutes and take in what just happened. Ruined my whole day.

I've never missed one with a shotgun, so when my time comes I'm sure it will be epic.

I know the feeling though as I've missed other critters.

I can't remember half of what I've killed but I remember every miss down to the detail. It eats at me for days afterwards.

Mosses hurt... a LOT. I've had my share of misses and cripples.

Time for a 20g and TSS. You may still miss at 10 yards, but pattern is so dense from 25 to 40 that you don't have to worry about holes in the pattern that end with lost birds.

Since I made the switch last year, me and my kids have gone 14 for 14.

And that was going from a 10g years prior!

It's sickening! Guarantee you the next one will pay dearly for it! I was lucky Sunday morning just about wiffed one wide right...due to the thick green up and bad set up, he came in strutting right behind a white oak and when he finally cleared at About 12 yards I flinched like a big wuss my front sight was two foot to the right of his head guaranteed. Luckily the gun never went off, I said to myself you idiot, i squeezed the trigger and melted him. The good lord just give me a second chance on him

I had a picture perfect hunt opening morning and blew it at the last second by missing. I was just so excited/anxious that I shot before he got completely clear of a little brush. Turned out to be more brush than I realized. It sucks bad. I've had a good year but I'm still not over it by a long shot. I did kill a bird in the same area this past weekend. It helped a LITTLE because I can tell myself I may have got him after all. When you love something this much and work so hard to master it as a craft, it just really blows to screw up the easy part.

After a couple weeks I was able to tell myself that by the time the miss happened I'd already gotten 90% of what I came for.

I rushed a shot, and didn't focus. Clean miss at 25 yards, by simply not being patient. Which is laughable because tomget the bird down the barrel took immense patience. I'm accompanying it to weeks of brutally tough hunting and just getting overly excited at the end. I won and fooled a tough bird, but hate making mistakes.

I definitely understand that.

I've had 4 misses that haunt me, the first was 2007!

#1 - set up with a bird over the ridge on neighbors land. I call a few times, nothing, call a few more times, nothing. after about 20 mins, i cut hard on a box and he was 20 yards over the ridge going from left to right. came by me with my gun out of position, swung fast and missed him at 11 yards.

#2 - had a bird hammering for days up on this flat, but couldn't get him to move off it. roosted right on top of it. finally i decided to flank him and come up a spine on a ridge that ran into it to make a "L". I get in, i'm 40 yards from where i want to set up and spook 2 hens. they fly off, but causes another bird to gobble 2 ridges over. I set up on the boss, call some, nothing, call a little bit later, nothing again. Sun is up over the ridges, I cut real hard on my glass, bird gobbles at my 3 o'clock 50-60 yards away. i wait about 10 mins on the edge of the field and i hear spit and drumming as he comes in. he's in full strut at 40 when i see him and walks to 20 but i can't get a shot because of the brush. he sees something and turns to walk away, at 30 yards walks into the woods and I have clear shot, i miss him! run over to where he's at and he's pitching off the side of the mountain. I pack my stuff up and to walk up on the flat 80 yards away. the boss flies out of the tree with 3 hens. None of them ever came back to the spot that season. Farm was sold last that year just before deer season. Killed 7 on that flat over the years.

#3 - Same farm as above, hear one a main finger ridge, i work my way to the top of it. they fly out and onto the neighbors. it's 8:30 and time for me to head to work, I walk down this finger ridge to my truck, rip a few calls off and a bird gobbles from other end of ridge (200+ yards away). I walk about 40 yards down the finger heading to truck, call again, he gobbles way closer. I think i should find a tree, i do, get set up and he gobbles 40 yards above me. Had a big tree right in front of me and had to decide which side he would come too, I choose left along the spine of the finger, he choose right side of tree. AT 8 yards, I swing on him and miss as he comes out of strut. flies up into a tree about 30 yards away. I try to put another shell in, but I was leaning down hill against the tree and can't get myself out of the bind. finally flies off as i put the bead on him.

#4 - Bird hammering on roost, flies down to flat on top of mountain with hen. i'm 40 yards off of it. he gobbles a few times then goes quiet. I wait about 45 mins, hear a bird out the mountain once, i think it's him. I ease my way to the flat, i see the hen 10 yards from me looking at me and 25 yards away is this bright blue head in half strut. i raise my gun, put it on him and watch him sail off the mountain on the neighbors. he gobbled over there for the next 2 weeks i hunted...lol

I've made that mistake plenty of times, it's even worse when the hunting has been tough and you finally get a bird that will work

Setterman, don't let it eat at you too bad, I would rather miss one as to wound one and have it run/sail off. Something about wounding such a magnificent bird that it just kills me when it happens, missing one just makes me mad but it's alot easier to swallow.

That's tough. I haven't done it much but have managed to do it twice this year. The first bird I worked for over an hour. I realized that I had the wrong setup about 30 mins into it but couldn't move. I finally got him to come look and jerked the trigger. It was my first time shooting a gun since having a bulging disk in my neck and technically not supposed to be shooting a gun. I think that played on my mind a little.

I killed the next two with more difficult shots so the miss wasn't that bad until last Monday. I got on a bird that came in on a string. He gobbled just over a rise as I was getting into position. I think he heard me walking so I set straight down. I then realized I had set up against a small tree that moved when I did and forgot to put my face mask on. He came to 40 yards and starting looking for the hen as I was trying to hide behind the gun. I decided to go ahead and "end" it since he was looking hard even though still coming. I put the dot on his head, pulled the trigger, and he flew off. I have no idea what happened. I had to have jerked the trigger, Again. I told my son that I should have let him come, he said yeah if he had busted you then you would have said that you should have killed him when he was in range........true.

It's part of it. It's not my first miss and certainly won't be my last but still hurts especially after you work a tough bird, win the battle, and blow what should be the easiest part. Still fun and makes you wanna come back for more.......

This, every day of the week. A miss is 1,000 times better than a cripple.
