Missing a bird

Nothing worse. I missed this morning for the first time in I think 6 years. Absolutely sucks, especially with how tough this year has been. I did everything so perfectly on a really Wiley bird and just blew it at the end. These haunt me for years

Anyone else feel this way?

Catman since you're a pro at missing any advice? Just kidding bud.

I've had one shot all year at a tom. Made him fly across a river and got busted moving my gun barrel as he was coming out from behind a tree. I shot and missed. I was pissed to say the least, for about a minute. Then I was like that was probably one of the best hunts I have had, and definitely the best this year.

I'm still upset about it, but also will remember it for the good parts for a long time to come.

I have had that problem until I started using decoys and a blind. The blind hides my movement so I can concentrate on the shot. The decoys also help to hold the birds attention and not be head bobbing around. You should try it if you want to keep from wounding or missing birds.

Lol, I hope your blind and decoy skills are better than your pot stirring skills[emoji14]

That's a great idea. I'll stop tomorrow and grab some gear. Any suggestions?

You are correct. It absolutely sucks, as a Turkey Hunter, to finally get a "tough" Gobbler to break and come after days of hunting him, only to blow the shot at the end. Only thing worse, for me that is, is to know you crippled 'em up. Be thankful you did not. Ain't the first time and surely won't be the last :P I know I do not have to tell you this but anyone who says they have never missed is either full of sh#t or has not Turkey hunted long enough ;)

Make sure to get some of that TSS stuff, I hear if you misjudge distance and think he's 50 yards and really he's 78 yards your in good shape.

Probably just grab everything in the store that is a name brand that shows on TV....

Seriously, I missed my first turkey ever. Standing still at 20-25 yards. Still don't know how except I was breathing hard and somewhat shaking. :tu:

As serious as you are at turkey hunting, you will recover but still think back on that damn day!
