More KYLE talk

I got to tell ya,
many times in my years past, teams have been on a roll. And yet, those rolls over the years, proved to be quite small. I remember one phase, where my favorite driver, Mark Martin hit one. He was fastest off of the truck it seemed every week. Steve Hmeil was his crew chief and they had it DIALED!!! ! Every track, every week, and yet, they'd lose. Be leading and get caught up, bad pit stop, horrible luck, etc. And then, one year, he finally won one, and then another, and then a third, and then a fourth in a row!!!! Then he led for a 5th, but came up short.

THAT was a roll.

Kyle is on one now. A little different in that it's a new car model, new make, new enging, new team, new rules, etc. This to me, seems harder to pull off. To be clearly THE FASTEST!!!!!!!!!! EVERY WEEK!!!!!!, but if it doesn't last through the year, and if he doesn't repeat his winning stats for several years, I fear he will fall into Nascars memory lane.

Honestly, how many people remember that Kyle Petty used to WIN races?!?!??!! How many people Remember that Dale Jarret used to win races and TITLES?!?!??!? How many people in the stands remember Ernie Irvan?

A roll isn't that big deal in the scheme of things. Having a "roll" like Jeff Gordon will put you down in history, otherwise, your just a guy who "ran well for a while"

But I am impressed. And my fingers a T I R E D ;)

He's on a role and his confindence level is high, unlike a few of the other drivers. He drives every lap like it's the last lap which might be a problem with 600 miles. He did say after winning the pole that as long as he's up towards the front he'll be happy. If his cars stays together and he keeps a cool head, he's going to be hard to beat.

NCST8GUY,
Most of us who have been fans for more than 10 years remember Ernie Irvan. He was headed for a championship when he was nearly killed at Michigan. He was given a 10% chance of survival the first night. His victory shortly after returning to the racecar while wearing an eyepatch is the stuff of legend. He also won at the track that almost killed him one year after the wreck.
There's a lot of guys who ran well for a while, then faded into nothing, but Ernie, having had his career ended by a second brain injury, doesn't belong in that group,IMO.

I agree,
there is someplace special for Irvan. I believe it was 176 mph, to 0 mph, in less than 30 feet.

And yet he went on to not only race again, but WIN again.

Kyle is a of the breed that it is just too early to decide where he belongs. only time will tell. He may pan out, he may be long forgotten. But while the getting is good, Im gonna wear that #18 hat in front of EVERY JR fan I know!!!!! ;)

Ernie had his attributes, but he also had his well known ability to wreck and/or wreck others.

One very memorable such case was when he wrecked Davey Allison in last race of '92 season costing Davey what would have been his only championship.

Instead,Kulwicki won his only championship.

Thus, reason he attained the nickname of Swervin Ervin .

Glad he survived, but should never have raced again after first wreck/injury/surgery .

Very similar to Kyle Busch .

I don't care at all for the cocky, arrogant prick but I will say that son of a gun can drive a race car. I've been watching Nascar since I was a kid but this year have watched more just because my little boy loves it. I'm a Junior fan but didn't like his dad. All the others I liked are now retiring -- Sterling Marlin, Dale Jarrett, & Mark Martin. My son has several cars of the drivers he likes -- Jeff Gordon, Junior, Kasey Kahne, Tony Stewart, Jimmy Johnson, Kyle Bush & one or two others. He loves it so it gives me a reason to watch it.

Actualy,
Ernie did indeed wreck Davey with a car bounced off the wall at Atlanta.

But swervin "earned" that name after being down a full I think 10 laps, cause of whatever trouble, and then the dude was on the inside lane, 10 down when the green came out, with many laps to go.

And swervin RACED em :D . Dude tried HARD to get back to 9 laps down :D And pretty much did it when he wrecked the leaders.

ThaT was a great race restart, probably on youtube. Ernie grew up as a person that day I believe. The crash that costed davey the title I dont' believe was irvans fault. I was a HUGE allison fan on that lap, and still didn't feel it was Ernies fault, even though I hated that dude.

Kyles legacy is now being written. Years from now, it will be talked about and discussed, or argued about, or laughed at.

A writer on NASCAR.com nailed it today when he said that fans have been clamoring for an old-school driver.Kyle is that old-school driver, who races anything, anywhere, anytime. He races to win, without stroking for points. He doesn't even get paid for the truck races he does.TV ratings are up,and NASCAR can say whatever they want about why,but the excitement that Kyle has brought to the races is the biggest reason.

Kyle is a punk . Fans are watching and waiting for that moment when someone puts him into the wall .
Warren Wallace will be along to do the job as soon as he's done with Mike.
