Morel mushrooms?

If the mushroom pops out of the ground, does it rot in a week, or what?
You have more than a week Andy. Hot or dry conditions can shut them down but if it stays like this they'll pop up for awhile.

They will be up next week, last time this early was 2012 I found them on March 14. This year by the 14th it will be 70s/50s for over a week, so I think it will be another year like 2012.

If I'm remembering right they usually come up a week or so before or the same time as mayapples do.
not here, may apples are up and the leaves are wide open by the time the mushrooms come up. This year may be an exception, I'm guessing they'll be up at the same time.

Went this evening to look and found about 20. Earliest I have ever found them. Should be up really good in a week or so but next Sunday and Monday they are calling for lows in the mid 30s and snow Monday morning lol.

I couldn't find your other thread, and I am no expert on morels. I have only found a total of 7 or so in my life, but it appears it is going to cool down some then the temps will go back up. there may be some that come up over the next two days, but I don;t know that they can withstand the cooler temps.

I'm actually planning to do quite a bit of turkey scouting this weekend with the cooler temps moving in and would like to know more about the morels. How exactly do you guys use them for cooking? I'd love to give this a try. Maybe I'll come across a few while I'm scouting woods.

use them for anything that calls for mushrooms, or just slice them long ways and skillet fry them with salt and pepper. A lot of guys like to roll them in flour too but I usually just fry them in a little butter.

Cayman have you found any yet? I figured they would come up first out your way before they did here in East Tn. I haven't been back since Sunday but found 1 patch with about 20 already up.

poked around a little this morning and didn't see any, but I got to check some of my known spots to see if they're up where they have always been in the past.

We'll I went to my main spot today and only found 1 lol. My uncle went back to the spot I found 15 or 20 at Sunday and found 10 more. Maybe another week or 2 and they will be up good but it's supposed to frost this weekend here.

Checked my go to spot for early blacks this morning. None so far...any time though

Went back to my main spot today and only found 1 plus the 1 I had found Wednesday . I'm afraid it's going to be another weird year for them with the temps up and down. Supposed to be in the low 30s Sunday and Monday.
