Howdy friends and neighbors. I will be moving to Cookeville from Franklin next month. I have remarried a Putnam County girl and we got a 16 month old boy!

I am on a lease in Marshall County/Lewisburg but interested in places up here in the Upper Cumberland. How's the deer hunting up this way?

I'll be honest, I hated it when I had to live there. The city itself has some real traffic issues, just isn't laid out well. Where I grew up and where I live now, I was used to a lot of freedom and a ton of very close public land to enjoy. Yes there's public land around Cookeville but it's a drive to get to much. I just don't like driving like that.

Once you learn what roads to avoid and when to avoid them it's not bad. Friday evenings, get me outta there!

Lol I've been living here and Franklin for 2 years. 10th street construction at Old Kentucky Rd by the new Food City is…well…kinda chitty by the Food City lol
Once it's fixed it'll be nice. That phase should be done by the end of august. Not sure when the next phase is set to be done but they're gonna take 4 lanes to cvs. Shoulda been done 20 years ago.

I grew up in Algood and still work there at Institutional Wholesale. The whole area is nothing like when I was growing up. (I'm almost 60 now) There's appartment buildings and two schools across the road from where I work. My dad and I used to chase rabbits with his beagles there. Traffic is unreal in the afternoon when school is letting out.I live in Rickman now a little north of Cookeville.

Rickman area is nice. Algood isn't too bad either. But Walmart and the speedway is nuts.

Back to hunting…..
Cordell hull has lots of places to go
Center hill has places to go
Dale hollow is huntable but you need a boat
Standing stone has deer but you have to put in the homework. I know there's a few big leases in the area, mainly toward Monterey. I don't know a lot about them.

Born and raised south of Cookeville.
Have a biz there now and lots of family.
A lot of Corp of Engineers land in the area with good hunting but poor access and it's steep. When I lived there I hunted private and public all over Putnam and surrounding counties plus went to AEDC, Oak Ridge, Catoosa WMA's as often as possible. Didn't get to Bridgestone much, it was just a timing thing.
Most of all I miss Center Hill lake! Deep cool water lake not polluted like most big river lakes.
Still some great fishing there when the water is too cold for the lake bunnies plus you can scout for game while fishing.

Don't blame you buddy, getting crazy around here. I went to TTech for a couple yrs but haven't been back to that area since . Beautiful country up there but your current deer lease area will be hard to beat.

Problems like that all over the place. I live over in Greene county. Just a few years ago I was never held up by traffic. Now it is awful in the city. To many people came here To fast. The roads were not made for so many vehicles. I'd say lots of small towns are swamped with traffic these days. Nice bucks can be killed. You'll make it work once you get there. Good luck with it all.

I just moved to Sparta about a month ago and have been doing some research on public and private. Lots of private farm land and public core property in the area. Just have to put Boots on the ground.

I'm coming from Franklin, TN/Williamson County so the traffic here isn't bad compared to where I'm coming from lol.
Worked in Bwood for years. Live in Cookeville. You might be surprised at how very similar the traffic is. Additionally we have a lot of folks that don't understand how cars work…

Learn to appreciate Walnut. It will quickly become your go to.

No good hunting here. Stick to where you hunt now. No deer or turkeys. Don't bother looking, just take my word for it. Nada
