I am looking for a scope for my new 280AI. Scopes I have been looking at.
Leica amplus 6 3x18x44mm
Nightforce shv 5x20x56mm
Trijicon tenmile 4x24x50mm
Zeiss v4 4x16x44mm
Leupold vx5 3-15x44
Huskemaw 4x16x42mm
Will be used for hunting. And shooting steel out to 600 yds . Wanting a SFP scope. And exposed elevation turret. And a capped windage turret. With zero stop.

All are fine scopes. You are comparing apples and oranges on some of these. Weight will be different along with several features. You really can't tell much about optical clarity in a retail store, but you can tell quite a bit about other things (such as the previously mentioned reticle), so go check them out before you buy.

Optic quality will shine at low light. Not at the sales counter.
Optics Planet will give you up to 30 days to do a evaluation on your scope of choice with FREE Returns. https://www.opticsplanet.com/return-policy.html You can do the same with Amazon Prime if you are a Amazon Prime Customer. I have never had a issue with them.

I am a huge Leupold Guy and usually go on the side of Leupold most of the time. But based on what your lay down criteria will be I am going to suggest that the Trijicon Tenmile and the Nightforce SHV might be more inline with what you are looking for. Good Luck on your search.

Why not Vortex? They make some excellent long range scopes. The glass is a step down from the scopes in the $thousands, but they are still plenty for what you seek. I've used the golden eagle to compete with for several years at 600 and 1000 yds.

The best turrets you'll find right now on a hunting scope will be the Trijicon Tenmile or Tract Toric. Watch Barbour Creeks YouTube videos on both of them for the turrret tracking test. Phenomenal for both and my personal experience with both has been the same. That being said, my Zeiss V4's all track spot on as well. All three of these have great glass as well. No need for magnification up to 24x for 600 yards. A great scope in 10x is plenty but something with a top end of 15 or 16x is about perfect.

Because the glass is definitely a step down. And that Warranty? Yeah your gonna need it. I just talked to a guy the other day that was bragging on his Vortex scopes. He goes on to tell me how great the Warranty department is. And how many times he has had to use them. About mid way through his conversation I had to stop him and say. So let me get this straight. You have owned about 7 Vortex scopes and had to send them back 9 times? Do I have the story right?? OK :)

I guess my Vortex experience is out of the ordinary then. I have 6 and none have failed. I guarantee that my sml's punish them much more than the average rifle.
3 of them are on sml's.
1) 300gr 2800fps 83gr load 11lb gun - 53ftlb
2) 300gr 3100fps 136gr load 14lb gun - 58ftlb
3) 350gr 3400fps 170gr load 18lb gun-73ftlb.

One is on a 338 lapua magnum
The other 2 are on 6.5 prc's

Nightforce all day everyday and don't buy from optics planet. They are a garbage company! Also, if you're .mil or LEO, Nightforce has an amazing discount program through expert voice. Seriously! Prices you won't believe.

Don't overlook Sightron in their upper tier of scopes. I have a few and really like them. That being said I had a Nightforce NXS and wish I still did so I could compare it to the Nightforce. That glass was off the chain!

Out of those listed I would have to pick the following , simply for value on what you are getting:

Leupold vx5 3-15x44
Zeiss v4 4x16x44mm

I personally like the B&C reticle on the Leupold. Both have awesome glass, maybe a slight nod to Zeiss. I Just bought the Leupold and am beyond happy with it.
