New bow lines?

I completely agree Scott, but I'm thinking from the shopowner's perspective instead of the industry as a whole. I study and roll out business models for a living and can't help but think that way even after work hours :D

But sometimes it's good to look at things from the consumer's point of view , not from inclusive business models . Sometimes it's good business to fill a niche in the market.
As a customer , why should I have to drive all over the state to try a few different bows , when I can go into one shop and test a few models that fit my needs ?

We need to discuss this over cold drinks at Rich's new cabin. I'll buy :D

This is finally turning into a good topic. I will weigh in later tonight. I love business talk. Jay the cooler is already full and I need to hang a new bow hook with your name on it.

I wish I could whip out a crystal ball and tell you, but I can't. I have only shot Parker (past 4 years), HCA (12 shots), Whisper Creek (out of business), Headhunters PSE a few times and my bows Mission Menace a few times.

I really need to test some more bow before I can help you out with this. I am looking into getting a new bow after the first of the year 2010.

Whisper Creek is an interesting example. They are out of business per your post (I wasn't aware), but imagine the predicament a shop owner would be in if he sold a bow to someone then couldn't get parts to service it. That would not be good for the shop's credibility, especially in the early stages.

It's a business risk, but if I owned a shop I wouldn't take on smaller lines until the shop was well established and had some growth on it. I would stick to the major lines for a while who are going to do my advertising for me and offer little risk to the shop from a credibility perspective. ;)

But that is the biggest problem in the archery business . Dealers focus on one or two brands , leaving the smaller bow companies behind . Without a dealer base ,smaller companies cannot survive.
Two of the best shooting bows I have owned were from small bow companies that had no dealer base . If dealers don't start taking a chance and carrying something besides Mathews , the market will turn into a monopoly .

Yeah but the dealer also needs to sell what actually makes him money...Making an investment in the smaller companies that don't sell or go out of business isn't good at all for the dealer.... My dealer got Elite at the beginning of this year..He has been stuck with both of the bows he ordered since (GT500 and Z28) No one has bought either one..Yet you can set there and watch Mathews and Hoyts, Misson bows go out of the shop all day long..

There is a big need for a Bowtech dealer in this area .
Where I live they sell Mathews and Bo tec along with Hoyt about the three most advertised Bows on the Market and three of the best,Im mathews all the way but I know these other two are great Bows they just dont fit me.I dont see these going out of bussiness and leaving you hanging with unsold product that cant be replaced .

I truely feel with all the bows being made now...along with all the marketing on tv for all brands, that a shop can pick up most any brand name and sell bows.

Where a shop loses/gains customers is with service. Individual product knowledge is key. And quick turn around is key.

That brings me to another point. I'd rather see a shop carry 1 or maybe 2 bow lines, but be very well educated on each model. Rather than carry 4 brands of bows and fix them all with shims and dental floss.

So rather than ask the question "what bows should I carry" ask what bows are yall shooting? Let the VOC from a service stand point determine what is carried. Carry something folks already have, but learn to work on them. Then you can sell them another one later on. Rather than try to draw new attention with a new line.

I would also research the bow companies themselves. I would want to make sure the manufacturer is going to back me. Look at Bowtech. Great bow, with slow factory support. A lot of dealers that carry Bowtech loose customers due to Bowtechs slow service. Not the dealers fault.

PSE is tops right now I believe. I love my x-force GX the omen is a good bow and Ive heard a lot about the omen with gx cams that is comign out this year...

I agree . PSE has a wide selection of bows in many price ranges as well as a long standing reputation in the archery business . I have owned more PSE bows than any other brand over the years . I bought my first PSE back in 1981 . The X-Force series is a good line as well as the Bow Madness line .

This is a lot of good info
having three or four driffernt brands of bows is nice, you can try to see what feels right
I like PSE and bowtech :)

Hoyt Bowtech and PSE! These are definates
Maybe a small line of Elite or Ross! Which Ross would come with Bowtech!
