With our capitalist system, we keep inventing better things at progressively lower prices.

The problem is, almost all Trail-cams are being made in China with Chinese engineering.

Sad thing is, this will most likely be another reputable company that may get smeared with less than normal quality products. Lets hope not. When I started seeing the cheap Leupold scopes at Walmart, sort of figured wouldnt be long until they started using their good name to pawn off cheap products on consumers too. But agin, hopefully they will be great products!
Do you think the Leupold scopes sold at walmart are of less quality than the ones that bass pro or cabelas sells?

Hello Cecil. I never made mention of Wally scopes being of less quality than the same scope sold at larger Outdoor retailers.

Just IMO, I hope if Leupold puts their name on the new RCX-2 that is will be quality. BUT at 289-339.00 price range I doubt it will be much more than a Chinese or Japanese camera. If the camera says it is made in the USA, I would research the internals and make sure it simply isnt assembled in USA and made overseas... just my thoughts

No reason to get rumors started before we even know where these cams are being made. Unless your a pro staffer for other camera company(ies) We all know this is how the rumors start.

Not a single Chinese company is trully "innocent" in all these technology wars. NOT A SINGLE ONE. And that includes Uway. I'm a "pro Staffer" for them only in the sense I test new designs for them. I don't get anything for that except the chance to try new technology (test their "beta version" cameras). I still have to buy my production Uway cameras at the same price as anyone else. I am not "paid" to be on their Pro Staff, or given free merchandise.

While I'd LIKE to think that, I made that similar erroneous assumption when I purchased a Bushnell Trophy cam this past October. Really expected better from Bushnell, especially considering how much time they had "to work the bugs out" and solve any prior problems with this particular cam. Wasn't like it had "just come out" and I had a beta version for field testing. Rather, mine was purchased at Bass Pro Oct. 2010, and failed right out of the box. Makes me not to want anything now with a Bushnell logo.

IMO, if Leupold does like Bushnell has done with their trail cams, it could seriously hurt their scope sales. Will just wait and see, and will not be among the first suckers to go try out one of the new Leupolds.

Bushnell does not make their trail-cams. They simply pay to have their name put on another of the Chinese "clone" cameras, all of which are based on the same original technology (HCO/Covert/Bushnell).

But Bushnell is "playing" off their reputation of offering reasonably good optical products at reasonable prices relative to their quality.

When Bushnell CHOSE to put their good name on a piece of junk camera, their name is no longer "good" by me. Really hope Leupold doesn't make this same mistake, as I do currently plan to buy more Leupold scopes in the future. Meanwhile, I wouldn't consider anything else with the Bushnell name on it.

Apparently, many others have had similar experiences with their Bushnell trail cams:

I'm sure it will be another chinese made camera. It sure would be nice to have a USA made camera on the market that you didn't have to take out a small loan to afford a couple of them.

From what I am finding out it looks like the camera and controller will be sold separately. If it is like what I am seeing then you must buy one controller that will operate several cameras. You can not program your settings without it. So if they sell the camera for $200 or $250 which makes camera not to bad of a price then you buy the controller for another $150. That makes the first one expensive at either $350 or $400 but still not bad if it is American made black flash. Then all you have to do is add more cameras at the lower price of the camera only. That may actually work out good for people using multiple cameras. This may be a similar design to some China cams but not sure they were sold as seperate units. We will have to wait and see if this is the case.

Sounds almost exactly what I first heard about the Uway NT50 series. In their initial marketing, Uway was promoting a "twin pack" of their cams, with a single remote controller that could operate both cams, and allow one to purchase additional cams (without need for more than one controller to operate all).

For sure, you can not program a Uway without a WORKING controller, the Achilles' heel of these cams. Would be a big improvement if Leupold simply had the foresight to see that their new "controllers" were using replaceable batteries, such as a couple common AAA's (unlike the Uway remotes, which die a quick death when their non-replaceable batteries die).

Looking at the design, I can almost guarantee they are Chinese. In addition, they aren't black-flash.

If you are right then they can forget about getting my money. I will just save up and get another Reconyx for a few dollars more. Sent them an email trying to find out more and no reply so not impressed with their service. If they can't answer a few questions about a product they are in the process of bringing to market. Then how are they going to answer questions when they get flooded with problems from a new introduction?
