Just about anything will work at the ranges you've described, but a .308 would be my pick if you want a bolt action.

Good to hear. The Federals may be a bit softer. I bought some 165 FTX but I've not had a chance to draw blood yet.

Load up some 125 Hammers or Makers and get the speed up. I've killed several hogs at or over 200 with a 350 but I do admit that I'm taking the Grendel if I expect those shots to happen.

Thanks, for the info, have you killed several deer with the 350? I'm just looking for something new, I have gone from a 30-06 to a 7mm to a 270. I have killed deer with all of them. I used a 243 for a year and couldn't find the right load, everything bounced around in the deer. 350 Ruger just looks awesome, but awesome want kill deer. Just to make sure, you're using blue box federal with a soft point?

Yes sir, i have killed a doxen or so with it, using the federal blue box (soft point) , the ole cheapos most are d.o.a or within 40 yards of impact. Have killed from 20 yards to 220, exit wound on 140 yard heart shot

.243 with a quality optic is hard to beat on deer and you can smoke a few dogs with it from a looooong way out

About the best thing to happen to a .308 is a set of 7mm08, .260 Rem or .358 Win dies.
