That is great news! I am really expecting a stellar year between that area and the club in Hickman County.
I killed the 3 hens in 1 shot, and my buddy killed 4 last fall (one poult) for a total of 7 dead hens, in hickman county, so I'm sorry to say your club is screwed and you will have no future gobblers. :( ;)

Grizz, I think that statement depends on what part of the state you hunt in. You've seen first hand the population of turkeys we have where I live. Just this past week I counted 250+ turkeys in one flock and that was just on one farm. We thin a few hens out every year and it hasn't hurt the turkey population in our area. Now if we didn't have the birds we do and they were hard to come by then NO WAY would I be killing hens.

Please keep sharing this valuable info......I am starting to like Chapel Hill more and more....

Just because I live there doesn't mean I hunt there. If you can find em and get permission good for you. It probably won't happen so don't waste your time or gas money. It would be a long ride from KY to where I saw them birds.

I already have one lease in Chapel Hill and could certainly use another....Thanks for the heads up, tho....

You guys are my heroes. Maybe me and some others should post up pics of our kid's longbeards so you can see how real turkey hunters do it.

Not sure what you mean here?? Do you think ya'll are the only ones who have kids that have killed longbeards....Not sure what angle you are trying to take but if you want to compare pics let's do it..I'm game!!! I just hope you got lots of time...If I have taken you wrong, I apologize.

I do remember when there were few turkeys, heck I remember when you could hunt for three days and if you saw one deer you talked about it for a week. The turkey population has come a long ways over the years. I have been fortunate to have the opertunities to hunt in many area's of this state and would agree I have a harder time connecting with a bird in west TN than the others. And I will say this, I don't know Catman but from what I see from here he is as real of a turkey hunter as any other. I am proud of his kills, he has done it on his own with calls he made himself. As far as the "johnson measuring" statement I made, it was not directed at anyone, just a statement meaning that it is not always about the longest beard or the biggest antlers that makes a succesfull hunt. Matter of fact I have had the best season's ever the past couple of years and have not even shot a turkey. I have assisted several young, new hunters tag out and my son has been with me sitting between my legs watching all the while. Success can be measured in more ways than inches is all I am saying. As far as shooting hens, I never have but it may just happen one fall day if I have the hankerin for some wild turkey.

Hey I'm not bragging about killing hens! Just haven't quite got over that I was lucky enough to take 3 in 1...that's a shot I probably wont get again for a very long time, now why is there a need to come back and brag about you being a "real turkey hunter?" I think this is becoming a johnson measuring contest... why can't you kill what you like and I kill what I like, when did I bash you for killing only gobblers?

Ever think that it might not be the killing hens that some object to? Maybe its the 3 in 1 shot that turn experienced turkey hunters off. Maybe some would consider that flock shooting, the practice of which, will not impress anybody who is a turkey hunter? Most of us would probably think that killing three birds with one shot was a careless shot, not great luck. If killing as many as you can kill with as little effort as possible is your objective, why not use poison corn? lol

I am REALLY trying to stay out of this conversation because i imagine someone is going to get kicked from it or it be locked before long BUT I feel this is a good time to make this comment.

Catman, i am not sure if you shot all 3 on purpose or it just worked out that way and to be honest I dont really care, however it is a perfect example as to WHY you pattern a gun. If you happen to do it by mistake in the spring it is going to be bad news and TRUST ME it can happen when you are caught up in the moment and just dont focus on the birds around the one you have a bead on. In that situation a nice tight pattern actually helps rather then a broad sweeping pattern.

4onaside and REN -

I aimed to kill 2 in 1 shot. The 3rd one was behind and unexpected. Would not shoot at a cluster of birds in the spring for obvious reasons. I was hunting for meat, as much meat as I could get, and it was legal. Why is this frowned on? Why compare it to something like poisoned corn? I hunted them, had to outsmart them and their eyesight, it was completely fair chase and I got the meat I wanted.

The poison corn statement was intended as a joke! lol
And of the 1,000 things that I might be concerned about today, how you hunt might rank as high as 999th. But you might wonder why most experienced hunters on here consider shooting three hens (at least three that you killed outright)with one shot as not cool.I'm done.
