New Primos Truthcam 7.0 Blackout

The reviews I've seen of it are positive. I think it will make a great "baited site" black-flash camera. My only concern is the graininess of the night-time images. The graininess of the images makes identifying bucks in the background difficult.

Considering that you know exactly where the deer will be and can position a cam close, I think the cam will also make a great scrape monitoring cam during the season.

I like Reconyx cams but $199 sounds a lot better than $549!
Know what you mean, but unfortunately, there is so much more to it than the initial price. Not trying to pop anyone's bubbles, but . . . . . .

Last year, some new black flash models were getting good reviews on Chasin' Game. Similarly, I thought two of them for the price of one Reconyx SHOULD be a better deal. Didn't work out that way, as it's hard to put a "price" on all the time spent with cams that wouldn't work, or wouldn't work but for 2 days, or were in the mail back to the distributor, only to be replaced with similar units that wouldn't work properly either.

To what extent do you value your time?

What is the cost of a cam not working for weeks on end when you THOUGHT it was, make a trip to service it, only to find it had only worked for the first 2 days after you last serviced it a month earlier?

Hard to put a price on reliability.

Basically, for the price of a Reconyx, I had two cams that didn't work. Most things that are cheaper are cheaper for reasons such as less quality control, less quality, less something. Those new Primos cams may work just fine, but anyone want to bet you get the impeccable working reliability or as many years of service from one as you would from a Reconyx?

At present, the only new cams I'm considering are homebrews and Reconyx.

You are right Wes. You get what you pay for in everything including trail cams. I have had Reconyx, Scoutguard and DLC. I've been lucky. the only problem with any of them was a broken on/off switch on the scoutguard.

Natchez shooting supply has the truth cam black flash for 159. but they dont ship to tenn people. Dont know why. probably something to do with taxes.
Primos makes two blackflash cams, one is 299 and 199. the 299 has been testing on chasingame website. to me it looks like both share alot of the same functions.

They are a wholesaler to many TN, AL and GA companies and they promised the businesses they supply that they would not compete against them by selling outright in those respective areas. I ordered from them last year and had my order shipped to my sister's house (out of state) and got it from her the next week when we saw each other. The price they gave me was too good to pass up, even if I had to wait an extra week to receive my item.

I got one last Friday and set it up on a trophy rock Saturday morning. My curiosity got the best of me yesterday I had to check it. Had 40 pics. 2 things so far. 1 is its not a true black flash. In a black room the lights can be seen. 2 I had to reset the time and date after I checked the card. I hope Im not gonna have to do that everytime.

Bryan,

It did me also. What scared me was when they came on they stayed on what seemed like forever. I found out it was because I had it set on 5 pic burst. The lights stay on the whole time its taken all 5 pics. So I changed it to 3 pic burst. All I decided to put it up a lil higher and angle it down so maybe the light will be less noticable to the deer. But I read the package 5 times where it says "no visiable flash" and "no noise". It does make a noise when switchen from day to night pics. But its only one click and doesn do it again till it swaps back.

Well, those two issues take it off my "potential buy" list.

I'm still curious about the Hunten Outdoors cams. They sure make some outrageous claims about their new cameras. Sounds WAY too good to be true. Black-flash, 70-foot flash range, 1/3 second trigger, 60-foot PIR detection... Can't be true for the prices listed:

My Uway NT50B is totally invisible in a dark room to me, but I've read where some people can see a faint flow from them. I've got lots of pics where big bucks stand around in front of them for a long time with no indication that they see the cam though.
Mine's been outside taking pics since Oct so I'm pretty happy with it, but I kinda hate to recommend them because of all the problems I've read about that others have had with them. I did have a moisture problem from condesation once when we had some big temp swings in Jan, but I brought it in and let it dry out and put it back out and haven't had any problems since then.

From what I gather, a few people can see a faint glow from all of the true black-flash cams, but from what I'm reading from the first users, this Primos is a whole different story--obvious glow.

I had condensation in all my Uway NT50Bs that I had in the bottom of valleys during the winter, especially after heavy rains or big temperature swings (very obvious during our big snows). But once the air dried out, they dried out.

But how far away can you see the glow on this primos? i think 3-5 feet can be acceptable to me. This is the range i have heard some people talk of the new Bushnell. apparently the 466c model is way better than the 467 model.
Now the more expensive Primos seems to be True Black Flash. It received decent reviews on Chasingame. I found it on Amazon for somewhere around 265.

That's a question I haven't seen answered.

From what I'm hearing, at least 50% of people can't see ANY glow from the Bushnells at all. That's good enough for me to call the camera a true "black-flash."

Perhaps there is a difference in flash visibility between the cheaper and more expensive versions. But I'm sure as heck not going to pay $250+ for a camera with Primos' reputation.

One thing to keep in mind about any of the "reviews" on the cams made in China:

The reviewers may receive a "working" unit.
YOU may buy a "lemon", that takes you many hours (even weeks or months) to figure out the problems are with the cam not working properly, rather than your being unfamiliar with the new cam.

The quality control on many of these cams is just horrible.

I had hoped Leupold wouldn't screw up their reputation by putting out a junk trail cam (as did Bushnell), but after reading the Chasin' Game review of the new Leupold, looks like they've screwed up, too.

BE SURE YOU SAVE YOUR RECEIPT ON ANY CAMS YOU PURCHASE!
Right now I'm stuck with a Bushnell Trophy Cam purchased October 2010 because I lost the cash-register receipt from Bass Pro. Your bank card receipt won't cut it.

Well said Wes, and the reason I no longer recommend any of the Chinese-made cams. The cam may have absolutely brilliant engineering, but manufacturing quality control is so bad in China that a significant percentage of the best engineered cams can come off the production line with flaws that will cause unit failure or poor performance.

I tell you what, I wish I could share some of the information I've heard about what goes on in the world of Chinese trail-camera manufacturing. Suffice to say, first, it is truly the "Wild West" of business practices over there, and second, copywrite laws are completely ignored in China. Ever notice how many different competing brands of trail-camera look virtually identical? Promise to buy a 1,000 cameras, and you can buy any manufacturers trail camera with your name on it, delivered to your door, ready for resale over the internet.
