New state record?

No it's the same one. I have known about that deer for 4-5 years. Everyone is saying the same thing about the difference in the gross and net score on this buck.

Amen brother. I've seen great bucks that don't have a wide spread and it's just sad because we're measuring air. I don't like the deductions either score the whole rack for the credit to the buck.

I don't know . The one I had scored was at some rally they had at the national guard place on hwy 30 many years ago . You could probably get info by contacting the TWRA office in Crossville if they still have an office there. Any one could score it but to register a rack you need an official scorer .

Doesn't sound backwards at all. The net after deductions type scoring has lost whatever appeal it seemed to have in times past. Heck I've been around for a little while and can't ever remember net scores being popular. Whoever thought it was a good idea was before my time.
 
A net score, to me, only has value as a unit of measure in the comparison of symmetry from one very symmetrical rack to another. However I think it should only be considered as an informative data metric and shouldn't influence final score. I believe if he grew it it should count and more so than score I simply want one to pass the "eye test" when I look at him!!

I think the vast majority of hunters are on that same page but for whatever reason we still have the antiquated scoring systems dictating how big our deer are according to how perfectly formed they are. Baffles me.

That's fine and I agree but if you want to register it the net is the score not the gross . I think it is the BTR scoring method were you add all the bone no deductions but you don't count the spread which I consider silly because it's air !!

But in hindsight I agree but why measure the spread ? It's not part of the antler it's just air ! Seen some great bucks at a disadvantage because of a tight rack. I see two or maybe three flaws with current B&C P&Y systems. But that's just my opinion and others would argue that 😁
 
Yeah…spread is air. I don't know avg. spread of big bucks, but the reality is that most bucks are going to be somewhere within 15-22 inches. So, there is just not that much gained or lost with spread as part of the score. Certainly, an extra wide buck gains a few inches and a narrow buck loses a few but it does not affect much.

I've seen real good thick bucks with only a 12 in spread . And getting to the point its not bone ! And the spread could mean as much as the difference symetric wise compared side to side , thought that was the point .
