Nice old 8

BSK, you said he showed up at age 4.5. How sure are you that he was not 3.5 instead? I know there is no way of telling until he hits the ground, but could it be possible that he is only 5.5 now?

Look at the first pictures of him. Clearly a mature buck at that time (2009). In addition, last year, bucks don't have necks like that until they are 5 1/2.

Bryan,
Since you have both summer and fall pics of this buck would you consider him a home boy! What percent of bucks that you have pics of will disperse after velvet?

Really like that you have been able to photo him the past 3 years and monitor his growth. Wish we could have seen him at 2.5 and 3.5 just for show and tell!! Very nice buck and shows what you are doing on your place is working, and working well!!

This buck has actually changed patterns. The first and second year we got pictures of him, he was exclusively a rut range-expander/shifter, showing up just before peak breeding and disappearing by mid-December. But this year he is a summer resident.

We used to lose 50% of our summer residents each year come fall. But ever since we greatly improved the habitat (especially more sanctuary cover), we only lose around 20%.

if you kill him i hope you got big hands cause those are some massive bases to grab ahold of.

He is quite the toad. And the crazy thing is, EVERY picture I have of him was taken in broad daylight. Very strange...
