Trying to decide when to make my trip down to Henry Co to chase turkeys. The past few years I have hunted towards the end of season and the birds have been henned up BAD. Was looking at either opening weekend or that following week this year.

How has your hunting been on opening weekend as opposed to later in the season the past few years?

In middle TN, my favorite time to hunt is that first couple of weeks of the season. The gobbling seems to taper off for a while after that, and then the action usually pics back up around the end of April.

IMO...the past couple of years the turkeys havent acted normal. The cold spells we have had in April seems like it has played with them here. Lots of gobblin on the roost and nada after flydown. Its been weird. As far as henned up goes...I prefer to hunt later in the season. Let the hens get bred down and the gobblers have to look around more. I still hunt every day of season.....but IMO it gets better later to me.If I have a bird thats henned up usually I will let him go till later in the day. Its HARD to work a bird with hens. ;)
