Odd/Obsolete Calibers

Not really that odd but it was unfamiliar to many people I met. My go-to rifle for around 10 years or so was a 7x57 mm (7 mm Mauser). VZ24 action, Douglas Barrel and the walnut stock was a Sako style. Because it was a very strong action I was able to hand load to modern rifle standards. Very lightweight rifle, beautiful to look at and absolutely a deer slammer. Somehow gun writers are trying to create a Resurgence of that cartridge. Seems like every time I open a magazine there's an article about it.

The 7x57 is a great cartridge IMO. Handloading it can bring you close to .280 performance, which ain't a bad thing.
