The old system was heckuva lot better. Right now 24 would be long gone with it and have his 7th title wrapped up. He has been shorted on 2 other titles since the points changed. The new system is terrible.

Opinions???

I think the new system is perhaps better for those very reasons. Running away with the title kind of deflates the confidence of everyone else, and then the Chase becomes rather boring. Not saying that this Chase is all that riveting, but face it, with the old system, only the die-hard fans would be watching past August.

I don't like how you race all year to get in and if you just have one bad thing happen such as blow a motor or flat tire it can put you out of it.

i like the old system better, stuff happens but its like starting the year over again & if your not consistant for the last 10 races even though you have been for the last 25 tuff.why not break it down further-5 best then 3 best then down to the last 1,keep leveling the playing field til who you want to win wins,mike243

I love the Chase format. It has added a ton of interest to the end of the season. Before the Chase was implemented, I usually lost interest in NASCAR a couple weeks after Labor Day. Not anymore.

All other sports (except big time college football) have a playoff. No reason NASCAR shouldn't.

well if you are going to make 10 the only ones that can win, send the other drivers home & just let the 10 play,no need for the other drivers to mess up the ones in the chase, game over go home till next year, top 10 finishers go on then the top 5 ect...why not make it like the race of champions ?oh wait C.O.T. are the only cars allowed next year,mike243

This point system results in a 10 race season for 12/13 drivers. Liked it the old way better.

I still think they need more points awarded for the winner and a bigger discrepency for a top 10 finish.

JR would have never won under the old points system. Thats why I believe it changed. I really really wonder what SR would have thought about the new chase format?

There is a little more to it than that. The non-chasers are still winning races and money as well as trying to finish in the top 35. Also, the driver that finishes 13th gets a very nice bonus.

Want to talk about stupid rules? The top 35 points rule for qualifying is the stupidest rule in sports. I wish NASCAR would at least drop it to a top 15 or top 20 rule.

Definitely trying to keep Gordon from getting 7!! If they hadn't changed the system when they did he would have #7 wrapped up this year!

They should have kept the old system, but added 50 points for a win.Get rid of bonus points for leading a lap and leading the most laps.I've always thought that it's retarded that 2nd can get the same points as the winner.AND GET RID OF THE TOP-35 NONSENSE!Drive your way into the race, like they do in NHRA.

Amen! Waltrip was 18th fastest at Dega in the spring and didn't make the race on speed. That's ridiculous!

With more parity coming with the COT, the top 35 is going WAY too deep in the field.

I think there will be some changes, but how much pride can NASCAR swallow? I doubt they will back it up any further than the top 25. Also, the entire group of cars that aren't locked in should go out first. That way if qualifying is rained out, a better decision on who makes the field can be made.

They'll keep tweeking it till they find a way to get JR a chapionship while Keeping Gordon from passing Sr.s 7 championships.

Now that juniors with hendrix he will be expected to perform he'll have the cars but will he have the talent!

You guys are so freakin' funny. NASCAR loves Gordon. What earthly reason would they have to keep him from getting 7? So he won't pass Earnhardt? Give me a break...you guys are too much.

It is reality. Go back and look at the system since they started the "chase" crap. If you do the math on the races at where they were at the 10 race cutoff and look at where Gordon ran the remaining races he would already have #7 locked up this year. The system is terrible and really needs to be gutted and reworked. Better yet, throw it out and go back to the OLD SCHOOL.

The old system was far more rewarding to the drivers and crews who had their stuff together through out the season. I'm not a big fan of the present point system or the 35 rule either.
