Ordered my son a deer rifle….

Hes been killing em with my lil cz 223. Time to get his first real deer rifle. 5.5 pounds stainless fluted cva scout in 243. Now to find a light low profile scope for it to keep it bakanced

Cool little gun. I bought the same gun few years back from Jon54. We hunted with it yesterday morning. Currently shooting Federal Fusion 100 grain ammo.
 
Those Scout's are nice! I bought one some years back for my oldest nephew. He's only used it once and missed one with it so he prefers to shoot my dad's Marlin 30-30 but I think I'm going to get it out and use it next year.

My kids are using the same rifle in .300 BLK OUT. It shoots sub-MOA with both hunting loads I've tried. The best scope mount I could find is the DNZ Game Reaper mount. It's rock solid and I topped it off with a little Leupold VX3i in 2.5-8x36. It's such a nice combo that I've carried it to the treestand a few times this year. Great gun for a kid!

To piggy back on this discussion, does anyone have a recommendation for a heavy duplex reticle scope under $250 that would compliment this setup?

Leupold has a few older models with the heavy duplex. You might find one used. I liked the little 1.5-5x20mm with heavy duplex. The Hawke Vantage scopes have a pretty heavy duplex in my opinion. Those are good scopes for around $119 online.
 
Put a Swarovski z3 3-9x36 on one of them and 2 with the old leupold vari x iii 3-9x36. They work great.

Perfect scope choice
 
I got the same Scout stainless in 45-70 and converted to smokeless. Love the gun so much I may just get another one in a rifle caliber. Trigger is awesome. Only thing I did extra was bed the scope base. I don't think you'll have any issued shooting a lighter caliber in it though, but a little insurance is always nice.
