My shotgun is black metal on black synthetic stock. NEF pardner pump, same design as the rem 870.

I just got some primer, paint and matte clear coat, all rustoleum brand rattle cans. And a couple bottles of acrylic for hand painting the details. Also some paint thinner to clean all the oil residue off of the entire gun.

Has anyone done this? I don't expect a bulletproof finish, it will get scratched here and there. But as long as the paint doesn't crack and flake off, it should be good. This is my cheap work horse shotgun that doesn't need to be super clean or fancy.

It'll work as you want it to, but my question is why? Black guns will work just as well as one in Mossy Oak Bottomland. Sure the MO one looks cool, but for killing turkeys a black gun will work just fine. My very first turkey killer was a Winchester speed pump thing that had this wild laminate wood stock that stuck out, by the time they knew it was there it was chewing their face off.

I know a black gun kills the heck out of them just like any gun, mine has taken 15 in the past 2 years, all black no camo.

Part of it is that I would like it to look cool, but also to make it blend in just a little better for self filming hunts. It's tough for me to get a good kill shot on video, usually the bird is behind bushes because I set up in thicker stuff, or walks off screen because he saw me. Those public land turkeys will pick me off easily at close range, even when I'm motionless. A little extra camo and confidence boost is what I'm looking for so I can film better. If I didn't bring a camera, i wouldn't care much about my gear and might even wear a T shirt.

I totally understand, and paid $400 extra so my SBE is camo. So I get where you are coming from.

Yea I did the same when I bought my sbe2, I understand where you're coming from catman, I had one of those shotguns you had and that thing would rust if you looked at it wrong. So if it were me I'd had it painted a long time ago

I ordered some McNett camo wrap tape off Amazon. It's not supposed to leave a residue and supposed to only stick to itself. I painted a 835 just like your talking about. Seemed like the more I did the worse it looked so I'd go easy on the details.

Ahhhhh you will be wearing costas and carrying your Sundrops in a Yeti before you know it.

I've painted a few rifles and it works just fine, just be sure to clean all the oil off first. Just know once you paint it there is no going back, you can remove most of it easy but there will always be spots you can't get to and get the paint off. for your gun that may not matter a bit.

You can also look into the Mossy Oak gun decal kits. they are cheap and easy to apply and folks that have used them say they work very well.

I used tape the first year I had the gun and it was ok but it looked tacky. I want a custom design that protects from rust.

if I can get a pair of costas or a yeti for 21 bucks like I paid for painting supplies, you bet I'd have em. I'd sell the stickers to some high school redneck wannabe, and put the products to good use.

I would think as long as you seal it with a flat clear coat that it shouldn't flake off

REN that looks great, is that a sea sponge?

I looked all over different depts at Walmart and could not find sea sponge. If it hadn't been late in the evening, I'd have gone to hobby lobby. I got some foam brushes for detail work. I plan to make a tree bark design so my gun resembles a branch, which to me makes the most sense for camouflaging a turkey gun.

yeah i used a sea sponge and just regular spray paint. the key is the base coat, the outcome of the look is all dependent on the base coat you use. I have tried a bunch of different coats as the base with a variety of outcomes. The issue with spray paint and the sponge is it gets sticky fast and can make the overall pattern smear or spot. what i ended up doing on the rest was base coating it with spray paint and then getting a few outdoor paint samples in colors i liked from like home depot or lower (they are like $2.50 per sample) and used it as the camo part. went on better and i had more options of colors i wanted to use.
