Here are some pictures last fall in Montana. I was cook and all-around hand. Just because you own a ranch in MT and are a resident of TN doesn't get you a big-game license every year.

During peak rut my ranch holds about 300 whitetails. We take a large number of does every year but it isn't enough.

Crossville TN team of goose killers showed up in November.

Been trapping song dogs for 50 years. Am effective and consistent on them.

My son ventilated a dandy!

The herd was around 60 animals. This was the biggest bull late in the season.

Here is an oldie but good one for thinking about bucks in Wyoming. Having hunted in Montana most of my life it's getting tougher to find "shooter" bucks. 25 years ago it was about 1 out of every 20 to 25 bucks would be a shooter. In my youth, it was 1 out of 15. Today, in eastern Montana it is probably 1 out of every 40 to 50 bucks if you can find one. The guides and outfitters I talked to had a rough 2024 and 2025 doesn't look promising for big Montana mule deer I haven't seen a shooter muley in a couple of years. Enjoy this!

Wyoming Muley Bucks

When I first started hunting at a ranch I hunt in southern CO, we would see mature mule deer on almost every hunt. They weren't scared of you, sometimes they would stand on the side of the road when you drove by and just "dare" you

Before we started hunting it, the owners hadn't allowed hunting for years on their place. Once the word got out that the owners allowed us to hunt, some guide came in and offered stupid money to be allowed to guide on the ranch and the son-in-law accepted. The guide has been on the place for about 5 yrs now, and the number of mature bucks has decreased significantly. The first few years, the guide would get 4 or 5 big mature mulies. Now its maybe 1 "very nice" one and 3 or 4 mediocre bucks.
