Good conversation here, whatever you do keep using the Permethrin. Just had Rocky Mountain Spotted fever, I go thru cans of this stuff and still got a tick Bourne illness. Tick illness are not worth the risk, nasty critters.
Just don't spray a cat down with it. For some reason they can't handle it. My buddy's wife found that out the hard way!To date, Permethrin is considered the most "mammal-friendly" pesticide known. Generally, it takes concentrations 10 to 20 times higher than what we are spraying on our clothes to see detrimental effects. Now is it good for you? No. But is it terribly bad for you? I would say only in very high doses.

Toxic to cats….seems ok for dogs and humans….To date, Permethrin is considered the most "mammal-friendly" pesticide known. Permethrin is probably safe to get on you. It has been tested on animals and found safe below a concentration of 10%. The commercial mixes (Sawyers, etc.) are only 0.5%. I mix mine at 0.625%. Permethrin is considered the most mammal-friendly insecticide known.Follow the directions on the concentrate you buy, they may not all be the same percentage of chemical. The permethrin I most recently bought is Gordon's brand. It is listed to spray directly on dogs, horses, and cows. I have had the stuff all over me. I spray my pants legs with the stuff and by the time I am done working outside my pants are usually soaked from sweat.
Except for cats!Permethrin is considered the most mammal-friendly insecticide known.
Thread 'Alpha Gal Acupuncture PSA' https://www.tndeer.com/threads/alpha-gal-acupuncture-psa.453411/Do whatever you can to keep the ticks off!! People in my area are getting alpha gal. It makes you allergic to all meat but fish and fowl! My wife has it. They told her it might go away in 5 years BUT every time they test her blood the allergy enzyme has gone up. Thankfully it doesn't make her more sensitive!
Can you imagine not being able to eat your deer, elk, buffalo, big ole grilled steak, etc!!!
Each person's reaction is different. Some can't eat beef, but can eat any other meat. Some become allergic to several meats. It really comes down to the fats in the meat. Alpha-Gal is actually a reaction to the breakdown of animal fats, not the meat itself.Do whatever you can to keep the ticks off!! People in my area are getting alpha gal. Refer to post #26 where you will find the mixing ratio.i bought some of the concentrate at Tractor Supply, but directions were not useful IMHO. i e-mailed the company, and they refused to tell me what ratio would be safe for using on clothes. quote - "we do not recommend our product blahblahblah..."
