With the predicted ice storm for this weekend, are any of you that got drawn for President Island going to chance the trip?

I know if I got drawn , I'd drive down today to avoid it . I'm not gonna miss that hunt unless family issues or something like that came up ... But I don't have to worry about it for another 4 or so years .

My issue is I work for the local utility company. This potential ice storm trumps a draw hunt.

I understand about your career coming first , but if I were in your position I would try to explain to them how long it takes to get this hunt and hope they would let me off the hook .

If I drew that hunt I would be there rain, snow, sleet, shine, tornado. I wouldn't care. If work threatened me and I had prescheduled vacation that was already approved, I would tell them they are just gonna have to get over it and be short handed because I ain't gonna be there. Hey...I've done it for lesser things.

Well it's like this. Both my bosses hunt and understand the situation. We also understand what is expected of us in unusual weather conditions when we took our supervisory positions. I also know where I get my money to buy the butter that butters my bread. We've come to a compromise but everything depends on this weather.
If this was a paid cruise it would be a different story but it's just a hunt.

Yeah..."just a hunt" that probably took you 6+ yrs to be drawn for. You knocked somebody out that could have gotten to go. Too bad there isn't a way to sell back the tags to TWRA...that way people that were drawn for a hunt and then something comes up and they couldn't go, could give somebody else a chance to go that would actually go.

I admire your dedication and responsibility to your job and what is expected of you. Says a ton about your character. I hope the weather doesn't hit hard so you can go and enjoy the hunt, and hopefully kill a good'un.

Crow, it took 8 yrs. Knock some one out? Maybe. I do get to scout tomorrow, come back home, go to work friday then if it does not get bad I can leave early and head out or hunt saturday and Sunday.
Not the first time the weather shut me out of a draw hunt. About 20 years ago at Catoosa a snow storm stopped a buddy and me. Well THP did.

eddie c, I don't think they realize what W.Tn. has coming Friday. I know crow T doesn't know about our '94 ice storm, he's just too young unless he googles it. I too work for a public utility and know that some situations trump ANY quota hunt. Good luck.

Hey look on the bright side, you could wait 8 years and the year you get drawn your daddy dies.

Life goes on with or without a hunt.

Yep, '94 was a big B, wasn't it? The old workers then said a good one comes every 20 years. I was hoping to retire before we have another one.

True. I've been looking at things different since my wife's cancer scare earlier this year.

I'm going to be odd one out...although it is a once in a lifetime hunt if your job is on the line you need to work. I've got a mortgage, wife and two kids. I couldn't just pull a Johnny Paycheck and tell my boss "Take this job and shove it". My decisions these days affect others besides just me.

If there is any way you can get out of working by all means go but if its going to cost you your job... Work.

The OP works for a utility company. Calling out of work the weekend of a once in a decade ice storm is like Barney not showing up to the only shoot out in Mayberry's history.

I bet if his power or gas was off he would be mad they let you off to go hunting. I know they wouldn't want me off during the storm in 09 I worked for a propane company and we ran non stop in that ice storm now I work for the natural gas company and we are getting prepared now incase it gets bad
