Ok...maybe not the coolest thing ever, but pretty dang cool.

Got a text on my phone a few minutes ago from my Covert Code Black camera up in Kansas. Then got another, and another, and another. These are the first bucks that my Code Black has captured. Looks like they found my Deer Cane lick, so hopefully they will become repeat visitors. This MMS technology in trail cams is just beyond cool!

These are 8mp pictures compressed down to 80KB for texting. I think the picture quality is excellent, especially for black flash. DLC Covert has hit an absolute grand slam home run with this camera.

x2 on cost?

Start with the camera for $290 from this site. I got mine during their July 4th sale for about $260.

DLC Covert "Code Black" Special OPS Wireless (Cellular) Game Camera

It will run on 4, 8 or 12 AA batteries. The more batteries you use, the longer it runs. I went with 12 AA's.

It will take up to a 32GB SD card. I went with a 16GB card.

If you have good AT&T service at your desired location then you can just use the short antenna that comes with the camera and it will synch up and text you pictures. However, if the AT&T service at your desired location is weak then you will need an external booster antenna for the camera to have enough signal strength to text you pictures. I went with this one for about $30.

Covert 2533 Booster Antenna for Spec

The external booster antenna has about a 12-ft cord. I have the camera mounted about 4 ft off the ground and the booster antenna mounted about 15 ft up the tree.

So, if I bought the same setup today it would be:

Covert Black Ops camera ($290)
12 Energizer Lithium AA batteries ($20)
16GB SD card ($13)
Covert external booster antenna ($31)

Total $354

Also, the service from AT&T costs me $10 a month for 1000 texts. Or you can pay $20 a month for unlimited texts. At my camera site, 1000 a month is plenty.
