Attached a new release loop to my bow. So I nocked an arrow and slowly pulled back and held it to help set the knots and stretch out the new loop. Had to cut it off twice to shorten it but now it's good to go. On the last pull, the velcro on my release came loose and I punched myself in the face. The arrow didn't make it past the biscuit luckily. But it looks like I need to shave off the frayed velcro and put on some new stuff. I have plenty of new velcro and some heavy thread, just need to find a needle and sew it on... Anyone had this happen before?

Never have because of release failure, but I use strap instead of Velcro. My first ever bow I bought from a pawn shop and the draw was about 3 inches too long, but I was 16 and knew everything, so I decided I was going to shoot it and in the middle of skying it while drawing I bumped my release button and busted myself in the mouth. After spitting blood for a few minutes I put it up till I could get to a bow shop. Got her fixed and hunted with that bow for 3 years.

Everytime I've busted myself in the face was from setting travel too light. I had the travel set "perfect" on a Carter release. One day I decided to tighten up the trigger tension. Just a small adjustment to the tension moved the travel ever so slightly. BAM!!! Halfway through draw I get a fistful of knuckles.

I love the know-it-alls over on AT that say "draw away from your face". No chit, but if something fails when you're halfway back there is no guarantee your release hand is not going to hit you. I was drawing "away from my face" the last time I got hit.

Needless to say I always get buckle straps on my wrist releases.

Never done it with a wrist strap release, but I completely blew my face out shooting one of the old thumb releases. I left a better blood trail than any deer I have ever shot.

The first release I ever had had a string between the wrist strap and release. Sting broke and I got a black eye. Took a 1/4 bolt and replaced string and that never happened again. The next release I got I made sure they were no parts that should break.

I have pics lol

I busted my nose with this Scott Longhorn Hex one night blank bailing. I set the travel too hot and busted my nose and took a pic of the blood trail lol

Note the saliva where I was spitting up what blood was in my mouth lol

Dang UTG how many yards did you go with that blood trail?

2 yards lol

I stepped back 6ft from my garage and let the blood drain out of my nose in the drive way. I knew the second it hit I was going to get a gusher lol

By far the worst hit I've taken. I've been hit 4 times...no pain no gain lol

Never had it happen with a bow, but did get wacked in the lower jaw when my foot sliped off the strap of my X bow. Man I'm so glad it happend just as I started to lift on the T handles. My Xbow has 175# draw.
